Employees are eligible for paid sabbatical time at 5 years of service, 10 years of service, and 15 years of service, provided they complete the minimum community service requirement prior to, or during their leave. The amount of time off / benefits for each leave is detailed in the chart as well as the amount of community service that is required for the leave.sabbatical_chartHow It Works

Sabbatical leave may not be taken prior to attainment of the employee’s 5, 10 or 15 year employment anniversary date, and may not extend past their 6, 11 or 16th anniversary date.

Sabbatical time must be requested in writing at least two months prior to your first scheduled day out. Employees must complete a Sabbatical Request Form which can be obtained from Human Resources.

Sabbatical leave must start on a Monday and continue for (2 or 4) consecutive weeks.

Should a scheduled holiday fall within your leave, you have the option of adding the additional day(s) to the beginning or end of your leave.

Employees will be paid 40 hours per week at their regular wage for each sabbatical week. Unused sabbatical time will not be paid out at the time of termination of employment.

Caveats

PTO time may not be used in conjunction with sabbatical leave.

Requests for sabbatical leave are approved on a first-come, first-serve basis and are subject to business conditions.

You must fulfill the community service requirement in the month immediately prior to or during your sabbatical.

I’ve been fortunate enough to take advantage of this benefit a couple of times now. It’s always amazing to me how refreshed and energized I can be when returning from a vacation, but the sabbatical is like vacation plus. Making time for adventure and experiences beyond what we might normally have time for is a great way to keep the energy and spirit alive at Nxtbook.
