Nxtbook Media will grant up to 12 weeks of leave to all eligible employees following the birth of a child. Leave time is calculated from the date of birth of the child. Employees may choose to use the entire leave period or any portion thereof.
Maternity leave is provided for all full-time female employees following the birth of a child and will most likely be a combination of Short Term Disability, PTO, and Unpaid time.
Short Term Disability (STD) is designed to cover a portion of your salary while you’re unable to work due to injury, illness or childbirth. Your Company-provided STD policy will cover 60% of your salary while on STD leave. STD will provide this income replacement for a period of 6 weeks from the date of delivery. STD benefits begin on the 8th day following delivery, or from the date your doctor says you’re medically unable to work.
At the conclusion of the STD period, you may then apply any accrued PTO (Paid Time Off) hours, including your Birthday Holiday (assuming community service element has been completed to accrue day), and your Family Fun Day Holiday to extend your leave. Please note that all accrued PTO must be exhausted before you may start any unpaid leave.
Once all STD and PTO benefits have been exhausted, you may then use unpaid time to extend your leave for a period of up to 12 weeks from the date of delivery.
Paternity leave is provided for all full-time male employees following the birth of a child and will most likely be a combination of PTO and Unpaid Time.
Employees electing to take paternity leave may use any accrued PTO (Paid Time Off) hours, including your Birthday Holiday (assuming community service element has been completed to accrue the day), and your Family Fun Day Holiday. Please note that all accrued PTO must be exhausted before you may start any unpaid leave. While an employee is on Maternity or Paternity leave, the company will continue the employee’s health benefits during the leave period at the same level and under the same conditions as if the employee had continued to work. PTO will not accrue while an employee is on unpaid leave.
If the employee participates in the group benefits offered by Nxtbook Media and contributes to the premium through payroll deduction, Nxtbook Media will continue to make payroll deductions to collect the employee’s share while on paid leave. For employees using STD and/or unpaid leave, your normal payroll deduction amounts will be doubled leading up to your specified leave date, based on the corresponding number of pay periods you will miss, which in turn is based on your requested leave duration. If your leave begins unexpectedly and we are unable to capture these deductions prior to the start of your leave, you must make payment for the missed deductions directly to Nxtbook Media. If the payment is more than 30 days late coverage will be cancelled.
Employees who wish to take Maternity or Paternity leave should complete a Leave of Absence Application and submit it to Human Resources.
