The Stroke Play Event at Franklin County Country Club delivered exciting competition, highlighted by performances of Dan Frost, PGA and Bob Gaus, PGA. Frost claimed his first win with a stellar round of 66 (-5) under par, finishing the day with an impressive seven birdies. His steady play and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities set the tone for a memorable victory. In the Senior and Super Senior divisions, Bob Gaus once again showcased his consistency and experience. Gaus fired a strong round of 67 (-4) under par, highlighted by four birdies and a spectacular eagle on Hole 6. His sharp play earned him not one but two trophies, securing the win in both divisions. With Frost making his mark for the first time this year and Gaus adding to his decorated list of wins, the event at Franklin County Country Club was a great success! •••••• Kyle Szyhowski (Norwood Hills Country Club) claimed victory at the 2025 Gateway PGA Professional Championship at Panther Creek Country Club, earning a qualifying spot for the National PGA Professional Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in April 2026. Joining Szyhowski in Oregon will be Ryan McClintock (Panther Creek Country Club), Mike Suhre (Oak Brook Golf Course), and Brett Moomey (Algonquin Golf Course). Szyhowski set the pace early with a stellar opening-round 67, putting him atop the leaderboard heading into Day 2. He followed it with a steady 73 to complete the wire-to-wire win. McClintock and Suhre finished with two-day totals of 142 to claim two of the other three qualifying spots, with McClintock surging up the board thanks to an impressive 69 on the final day. Moomey recorded what turned out to be a much-needed hole-in-one on the 11th hole during Round 1. He tied with Matt Gindler (Greenbriar Hills Country Club) at 143 after two rounds, forcing a playoff for the final spot. After tying the first playoff hole, Moomey delivered a clutch approach with his pitching wedge to 13 feet. Gindler gave his 20-foot putt a run but missed. Moomey then tapped his downhill putt, which caught enough of the left edge and fell in to secure his trip to Bandon Dunes. The four qualifiers will represent the Gateway PGA this April in a 312-player field at Bandon Dunes, competing for a place on the Corebridge Financial PGA Team and an invitation to the PGA Championship. Players will face two cuts during the National PPC, with only the top performers advancing. If Szyhowski, McClintock, Suhre or Moomey make the cut, they will move one step closer to the highest level of PGA competition. •••••• McMurray Takes Home Gateway Senior PPC Championship Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Missouri, hosted the 2025 Gateway Senior PPC, where four PGA Professionals earned their spots in the upcoming Senior PGA Professional Championship. Leading the way was Boone Valley’s own Bryan McMurray, PGA who used his home-course advantage to shoot rounds of 66 and 73, finishing at 3-under-par (139) to claim the top qualifying position. Jimmy Bals, PGA of Forest Hills Country Club followed closely behind, turning in scores of 67 and 73 to finish at 2-under-par (140), securing the second qualifying spot. Tied for third at 5-over-par (147) were Grant Masson, PGA of St. Louis Country Club and Michael Tucker, PGA of Bellerive Country Club. Masson posted rounds of 75 and 72, while Tucker rebounded from an opening 76 with a strong 71 on day two. Despite the pressure and lightning delay at Boone Valley, both players held steady to round out the final qualifying positions. All four competitors will now advance to compete in the 2025 Senior PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Their performances at Boone Valley highlighted not only consistency and resilience but also the strength of senior talent in the Gateway Section.
