The Midwest PGA tournament season is officially underway, with the first few events showcasing both incredible individual talent and the strong sense of community that defines our section. From the hills of Branson to the plains of Topeka, our professionals have hit the ground running.
The schedule began at LedgeStone Country Club in Branson for the Ozark One-Person Scramble. While scramble formats usually yield low scores, Trey McCrae put together a round that was truly in a league of its own. McCrae finished at 16-under-par (55), securing the win by a massive nine-stroke margin. It was a remarkable display of golf that set a high bar for the rest of the season.
The tour then moved to Parkville, Missouri, for the Triple Pro Scramble at The Bluffs Golf Club. It was a typical spring day in the Midwest, unusually warm but accompanied by heavy winds that made every shot a challenge.
The field featured 78 players, with an impressive age range spanning from 19 to 67 years old. In the end, the team of Brett Beard, Garrett Willis, and Ryan Bender managed the conditions best, turning in a 15-under 55 to take the title.
We also want to extend a sincere thank you to Bruce Rist and Cobra Puma Golf for their sponsorship and the tee gifts provided to our players. Their continued support makes these events possible.
Most recently, the action shifted to Kansas for Pro Open #1 at Lake Shawnee Golf Course. Transitioning from the scramble format to individual stroke play, 49 players took to the course to test their game. The competition was tight, but Jake Eklund managed an impressive 6-under 64 to claim the top spot on the leaderboard and set a new course record.
As we look forward to the rest of the season, we want to share our appreciation for the staff and management at our host facilities. The hard work put in by the crews at LedgeStone, The Bluffs, and Lake Shawnee ensures our professionals have a first-class environment to compete in.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the next stop!
