The #WeAreGolf campaign is a dedicated storytelling initiative by the Colorado PGA designed to humanize the sport and clarify the vital role of our local professionals. Our goal is to shine a light on the more than 950 PGA Professionals across Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota who serve as the "boots on the ground." These are the men and women who manage local courses, coordinate junior leagues, and act as the primary gateway for anyone looking to pick up a club for the first time. By sharing personal narratives, the campaign illustrates that golf is a community-driven profession fueled by a passion for service and a game we love.
At the center of this movement is Holly Champion, PGA Managing Director of the PGA REACH Colorado Foundation. Her story is a testament to the idea that golf is a lifelong journey rather than just a competitive pursuit. Holly’s love for the game began not with a trophy, but with a simple Sunday evening ritual with her father. This early experience shaped her perspective that golf’s true value lies in the quality time and health benefits it provides. Today, she uses that foundation to lead the PGA REACH Colorado Foundation’s efforts, focusing on making the sport more inclusive and accessible through her deep expertise in organizational leadership.
Holly’s role in the campaign also emphasizes the critical work of "green-grass" professionals who work behind the scenes. She often points out that while tour players are the billboard for the sport, PGA of America Golf Professionals like herself are the ones who answer the phone, teach the lessons, and foster the next generation of players. She advocates for a supportive environment where beginners are encouraged to play by their own rules to build confidence, ensuring that the game remains a source of joy rather than frustration.
Ultimately, Holly’s involvement in #WeAreGolf highlights the profound impact one professional can have on an entire region. Her colleagues describe her as the "glue" of the organization, a leader who avoids the spotlight while tirelessly advancing junior golf and professional development. Through her story, the campaign highlights that golf is an essential teacher of values like perseverance, integrity, and patience. By focusing on leaders like Holly, the Colorado PGA reminds the public that the heart of the game isn't found in a multi-million dollar purse, but in the local professionals who help millions of people fall in love with the sport every day.
