- PGA HOPE Tri-State Team Championship

Pittsburgh, PA — The Tri-State PGA section held its inaugural PGA HOPE Tri-State Team Championship on Monday, May 11th, at Chartiers Country Club. The event featured 19 teams, each consisting of one Tri-State PGA Professional, one military Veteran, and three amateur players.
Congratulations to the team champions led by Veteran Daniel Gray, along with Blase Cindric, Louis Merryman, and PGA Professional John Kerins from Tam O'Shanter Golf Course. They will be the first names engraved on the Anthony Gionta, USAF Memorial Championship Trophy.
The trophy is named in honor of Anthony Gionta, USAF, the son of Tri-State PGA HOPE Ambassador Ronald Gionta. Anthony served with the 146th Weather Flight of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and completed four Active Duty tours supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom as a combat weather forecaster.
The opening ceremony included a Military Color Guard, representatives from Allegheny County, and an inspiring bagpipe performance, the National Anthem by Jeff Jimerson and coverage by the Pittsburgh News Station WTAE-4.

Newtown Square, PA — Ron Gionta, a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force and Tri-State PGA HOPE Ambassador, was among the many ambassadors present at the PGA Championship held at Aronimink Golf Club. Ron worked at the PGA HOPE Dog Tag station. He was featured on PHL17 Morning News, where he discussed the significance of the PGA HOPE golf programs for veterans, as well as the special installations and offerings available at the PGA Championship.
We are grateful that Ron had the opportunity to be part of such an important week. We appreciate the PGA of America and PGA HOPE for their ongoing support of veterans and their families, and for the unforgettable memories they created for Ron, positively impacting his well-being.
