The Metropolitan Section was incredibly proud to watch Chris Gabrielle, new Head Professional at Old Westbury Golf & Country Club, earn his way into the 2026 PGA Championship with a fantastic performance at the PGA Professional Championship at Bandon Dunes.
Seeing Gabrielle compete alongside Met PGA native and PGA Tour professional Cameron Young at Aronimink Golf Club is a true full-circle moment for the Section. Both players grew up on the Met PGA Junior Tour, developed their games through the Section, and will now share the stage at one of golf’s biggest championships.
The Met PGA kicked off May with the Long Island and Westchester Match Play Championships, where Matt Dobyns of Meadow Brook Club and Nick Deni of Winged Foot Golf Club became just the 16th and 17th professionals to win back-to-back titles in their respective championships! Thank you to Long Island National Golf Club, Mount Kisco Country Club, and sponsor Kirk & Matz for a fantastic start to the season.
At Pelham Country Club, Mike Ballo Jr. of Tamarack Country Club captured the 2026 Peter Millar Head Professional Championship, while Ryan George of Rockaway Hunting Club earned Senior honors. In the Met PGA Women’s Championship, Sam Morrell of Fenway Golf Club claimed the title in a playoff over Alexis Hios of Birchwood Country Club, while CJ Reeves of Metropolis Country Club successfully defended her Senior Championship title. Special thanks to host professional Mike Diffley, Pelham Country Club, and sponsor Peter Millar for two outstanding days of championship golf!
Silvermine Golf Club & Bethpage State Park Golf Course | August 3, 2026
We opened registration for the Met PGA Birdie Bash, a one-day fundraising event taking place on Monday, August 3, where Metropolitan Section PGA Professionals will take on 54 holes of golf in a single day at Silvermine Golf Club and Bethpage State Park Golf Course, all with the goal of making as many birdies as possible.
Through each professional’s network, donors pledge a dollar amount per birdie made, helping raise funds to benefit the Metropolitan Section PGA Foundation and Play Yellow for Children’s Hospitals!
This year’s children’s hospital beneficiaries include Maria Fareri Children's Hospital and Cohen Children's Medical Center.
The Met PGA Junior Tour officially opened its 2026 season with more than 90 junior golf tournaments scheduled from May through October. Founded in 1975, the Junior Tour was created to introduce young golfers to competitive play while using the game to positively impact their lives through sports and recreation.
Now stronger than ever, the Tour features nearly 1,400 members and offers opportunities for players of all skill levels to compete at both private and public golf courses throughout the Metropolitan Section.
