Grand Island, NE – PGA REACH Nebraska hosted its annual Impact Event at Riverside Golf Club, bringing together 18 foursomes in support of a meaningful cause. Funds raised through the event will directly support the Foundation’s programs, helping continue its mission of Positively Impacting Lives Through the Game of Golf. Prior to the shotgun start, attendees had the opportunity to hear firsthand about those initiatives as PGA REACH Nebraska highlighted the programs and the lives being impacted through their efforts.
To begin the program announcements, PGA REACH Nebraska Director of Programming and PGA HOPE Graduate Amber Bogle spoke on the continued growth and impact of PGA HOPE while looking ahead to an exciting future for the program. In 2026, PGA REACH Nebraska is expected to welcome more than 300 Veterans into the program, adding to a community that already includes more than 800 Veterans across the Section. The six-week program provides Veterans and Active Military Members the opportunity to learn the game of golf in a welcoming and safe environment while fostering connection, camaraderie, and reconnection with their military community. Omaha, NE – Presented by Miller & Sons Golf Cars (E-Z-GO), the Nebraska Section PGA hosted its first major championship of the season with the 2026 Senior/Junior Championship at Omaha Country Club. The event featured two-person teams consisting of one Senior member (50 years or older) and one Junior member (49 years or younger), competing in an 18-hole best-ball stroke play format.
The two-time defending champions, Mark Foelbaek, PGA (Country Club of Lincoln) and James Sieckmann, PGA (Shadow Ridge Country Club), entered the championship as early favorites, but a talented field of teams stood ready to challenge the reigning champions in pursuit of the title.
Beginning their round on Hole No. 10, Sieckmann and Foelbaek picked up right where they left off, carding an opening birdie before adding four more over their next six holes to race out to an impressive 5-under start. Despite the fast-opening stretch, several teams kept pace, creating a tightly contested leaderboard. With nine holes remaining, more than 10 teams remained firmly in the hunt for the championship.
Among those teams was the duo of Ted DiGiacomo, PGA (Happy Hollow Club) and Mike Coatman, PGA (Firethorn Golf Club). Beginning their round on Hole No. 13 due to the shotgun start, the pair came out firing with birdies on each of their first three holes. Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska PGA Section is proud to announce Jeff Nielsen, PGA, Head Golf Professional at Bent Tree Golf Club, as the April recipient of the Wilson Sporting Goods Game Ball Award. This monthly honor recognizes PGA Professionals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to growing the game of golf.
A longtime member of the PGA of America, Nielsen’s influence reaches far beyond the daily operations at Bent Tree GC. His passion for player development, community engagement, and mentorship has made a lasting impact across the Nebraska Section.
“Being recognized by the Professionals I respect and learn from every day is truly humbling,” Nielsen said.
“There are so many talented individuals in the Nebraska PGA Section doing amazing work, so this recognition means a lot. This award is truly a reflection of our team at Bent Tree Golf Club. The environment we are building is only possible because of our team that shows up every day, takes pride in their work, and genuinely cares about others. I am blessed to be surrounded by a team that makes Bent Tree so special.”
Nielsen’s commitment to growing the game is evident through his longstanding involvement with PGA REACH Nebraska programming. Since its inception, he has played an active role in expanding opportunities for golfers of all ages and skill levels.
“From first swings and ladies clinics to college golfers, I’m proud to play a role in growing the game of golf,” Nielsen said. “Over the past few years, we’ve been proud to serve as a host site for Nebraska Junior Golf, U.S. Kids, a number of high school teams, and we’re the home course for Iowa Western CC. Perhaps most meaningful to us is the growth of our own junior program—more than doubling in size from previous years.”
