The Western New York Section PGA Foundation celebrated a deeply inspiring milestone recently at Webster Golf Club. In a powerful testament to the growth and evolution of veteran outreach, the club successfully hosted its first all female PGA HOPE class, entirely guided by an all female instructional team.
Remarkable women veterans graduated from the six week program, which introduces golf as a tool for physical, mental, and emotional rehabilitation. While PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) has transformed thousands of veterans' lives nationwide, this specific session created a uniquely empowering, comfortable, and tight knit environment tailored specifically for female service members. Having a dedicated space where women veterans can connect with one another and learn directly from trailblazing female professionals adds a profound layer of camaraderie, trust, and healing to the game.
Meet the Instructors
A historic class requires elite leadership. The program was brought to life by two exceptional golf professionals who are shaping the future of instruction at Webster GC.
Debby Murphy, PGA
Director of Operations at Webster Golf Club, Debby is a cornerstone of the regional golf community and a true trailblazer in the industry. As a dual PGA and LPGA Member for over 30 years, which is a prestigious distinction shared by fewer than 200 professionals nationwide, Debby brings an unparalleled wealth of knowledge and passion to player development. The owner of Webster GC since 2019, the 1996 Youth Player Development Award Winner, and the 2023 AJGA Golf Professional of the Year, her extensive resume includes a decorated background in coaching, notably helping lead the Seton Hall University women's golf team to multiple Big East Championships. For Debby, PGA HOPE is a natural extension of a legendary career dedicated to mentorship, service, and using golf as a vehicle to change lives.
Abby Morrison
Director of Instruction at Webster Golf Club, Abby brings a dynamic, modern edge to the instructional team. Abby is a PGA Associate completing the final level of her PGA curriculum. The 2026 Youth Player Development Award Winner, Abby utilizes her background in exercise and nutrition sciences to seamlessly fuse advanced biomechanics with golf instruction. With a proven track record of directing massive junior and women's golf programs across the Rochester area, Abby is fiercely passionate about welcoming newcomers to the sport. Her energy, technical expertise, and dedication to growing women’s golf made her the perfect co-leader for this landmark session.
A Lasting Impact
This landmark session concluded with these proud female military veterans officially receiving their PGA HOPE graduation cards. By providing a 100% female led instructional and peer environment, Webster Golf Club succeeded in fostering an immediate sense of community and trust. Led by the world class expertise of Debby Murphy, PGA and Abby Morrison, this historic class serves as a powerful blueprint for future all female veteran clinics across the Section proving that when veterans are met with tailored support, the golf course becomes a place of true belonging.
Congratulations to the new graduates and the incredible team at Webster GC!
