The late Walter Lowell was honored and remembered with the playing of the annual Walter Lowell PGA Tournament and ceremony to recognize the Walter Lowell Distinguished Service Public Golf Course Award.
The event took place at Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford with Walter’s wife Phyllis and daughter Heather in attendance.
Lowell was a prominent PGA member not only in the section, but nationally. The 1978 Golf Professional of the Year, he was instrumental in the inclusion of women in the PGA of America.
The Walter Lowell PGA Tournament was won by Ed Slattery of Sharon Country Club who scored 24 points in the stableford event.
Franconia Golf Course in Springfield, Mass., let by PGA Professional Steven Carle earned the honor as this year’s Walter Lowell Distinguished Service Public Golf Course of the Year recipient.
Coming up in July is the 44th Senior Section Open hosted by the historic Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton, Conn.
The 144-player field draws talent from a number of states and is truly a “Summer Classic”.
Catching up on recent events, Arthur Ouimet of Fox Hopyard G.C. earned a victory at the one-day Stroke Play tournament held at Mill River C.C. after defeating Ian Fedorchak of New Haven C.C. in a one-hole playoff.
Summer Pro-Pro winners included Zac Stennett of Twin Hills G.C. (CT) and Arthur Ouimet.
The section is happy to announce new staff member Kiley Feeney who will serve in the role of Tournament Manager.
Kiley was previously a Section Intern in 2024 and recently graduated from the University of South Carolina where she majored in Marketing and minored in Sports management.
Prior to graduating, she was part of a team that put on the Inaugural Colonial Life Charity Classic for Korn Ferry Tour.
