The Southern California PGA was privileged to host its 2026 Summer Meeting at Temecula Creek Golf Club on June 15th. Attendees had the opportunity to network with one another, visit with event partners, and hear from current SCPGA Officers about important updates within the Section. They were also treated to a captivating presentation from Robin Shelton, PGA, CCM, (General Manager at Newport Beach Country Club / 2025 PGA of America Professional Development Award winner / Past SCPGA President) about how to be ready for your next career opportunity.
This year’s Summer Meeting was also special due to the increased number of associates who attended the event. The Section was proud to host 46 associates of various levels inside the meeting room so that they could be abreast of all things going on within the SCPGA.
A special thank you to Temecula Creek Golf Club and those who attended for making this year’s meeting a great success.
Congratulations to Greg Ochoa, PGA (Hesperia Golf & Country Club), and Eric Yoo, PGA (Goose Creek Golf Club), who were crowned champions of the 2026 SCPGA Pro-Pro Scramble Championship. The duo fired an impressive 12-under-par 60, including a 29 (-7) on the back nine, to win the scorecard playoff. The victory earned them a $1,125 check, a beautiful trophy, and a pair of Jondo sunglasses.
As always, thank you to our dedicated partners who contributed to this year’s event experience: Airshare, DRS, Rams Hill Golf Club, Reveal Suits, foreUP, Kohler Wisconsin, Jondo, Good Boy Golf, PXG, Pepsi, Levelwear, Bunchies Energy Balls, Wilson, and BlueGolf.
Special thanks to hosts, Temecula Creek Golf Club, and their dedicated staff led by Director of Golf Peter Wininger, PGA, & Head Golf Professional Nick Woods.
Congratulations to Isaac Rodea of Temecula for winning the 126th California State Open Championship after shooting a 17-under-par, 271 total, across four days of competition at Bear Creek Golf Club. Fully exploiting excellent scoring conditions this year, marked by gentle breezes and mild temperatures, Rodea posted scores of 69-70-64-68 to win by three shots over the 156-player field.
Low amateur honors went to Hudson Vedder of Laguna Niguel after posting a 14-under-par, 274 total for the tournament, including the tournament low round of 10-under-par, 62, during round three.
The California State Open is a historic 72-hole event that serves as the oldest professional golf championship in the state. First played in 1900 and won by U.S. Open Champion Willie Smith, the tournament boasted a rich legacy with an illustrious roster of past winners including the legendary Walter Hagen (1915), Horton Smith (1934), Gene Littler (1954), Jerry Barber (1959), Roger Maltbie (1974), Dennis Paulson (1990 & ’96), Kirk Triplett (1991), and Jason Gore (1997 & 2004).
Special thanks to our product partners: Keurig-Dr. Pepper, Souza Enterprises, Creative Awards, and Evolve Golf.
