Assistant PGA Professional Championship
Talk about defending your home turf! Nick Westrich, representing our host facility Shoal Creek Golf Course, put on a legendary performance to clinch the Assistant PGA Professional Championship. Westrich absolutely dominated the field, firing back-to-back under-par rounds of 67 and 69 for a spectacular two-round total of 136 (-6) cruising to victory by a massive eight-stroke margin. Finishing alone in a hard-fought second place was Jake Eklund of Wolf Creek Golf Links, who carded a stellar 144.
Along with hoisting the Championship hardware, Westrich officially punched his ticket to the National Assistant PGA Professional Championship, held at the prestigious PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL, this November 12–15.
Behind the champion, the race for the alternate positions was an absolute nail-biter. Just a single stroke separated 1st Alternate Trey McCrae (Twin Hills Country Club, 145) from 2nd Alternate Megan Angus (Rivercut Golf Course, 146) after a gritty 36-hole battle. Rounding out the high-stakes trio of National Championship alternate positions was Justin Raigoza of Prairie Dunes Country Club.

Senior PGA Professional Championship
Robert Russell of Unity Village Golf Course put on an absolute clinic, dominating the field to capture back-to-back championship victories. Russell won by an astonishing six-stroke margin, firing a spectacular two-round total of 11-under-par (68-63=131).
Leading the charge for the National qualifying squad, Russell is joined by Steve Gotsche of Colbert Hills Golf Course, who put together a stellar tournament total of 137 (-5), and Larry Hadden of Shawnee Golf & Country Club, who fought hard to secure his spot at 143 (+1). This powerhouse trio of Russell, Gotsche, and Hadden will represent the Midwest PGA Section on the national stage at Superstition Mountain in Gold Canyon, AZ, this October 22–25.
But the drama didn't end with the final putts of regulation. High-stakes playoffs launched immediately after play concluded to determine the alternate hierarchy. Matt Seitz (Prairie Dunes CC) and Mike Johnston (Brookridge GC) battled head-to-head for the top alternate spots, with Seitz ultimately draining the winning putt on the second playoff hole to secure 1st Alternate position. Meanwhile, a battle for the 3rd and 4th positions unfolded between John Lanham (Prairie Dunes CC) and Matt Murdoch (Blue Hills CC). It took three intense extra holes, but Murdoch ultimately clinched the 3rd alternate position.

Midwest PGA Women’s Championship
The theme of back-to-back dominance continued in the Women’s PGA Championship as Kristen Samp (Kristen Samp Golf) successfully defended her crown in incredible fashion. Samp put on a clinical performance, outpacing the field by a commanding seven-stroke margin to hoist the championship trophy once again. Megan Angus of Rivercut Golf Course put together a stellar performance to capture sole possession of second place, while Gianna Augustine of Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club locked down a well-earned third-place finish with an impressive two-round total of 150.
