In a dramatic conclusion at the renowned Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club, Anthony Cordes, a PGA of America Assistant Professional of Cherokee Town and Country Club, secured the 2025 Georgia PGA Championship by sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, finishing at 6-under-par to win by one shot.
Cordes entered the final hole tied at 5-under-par with Francisco Bide, PGA Head Professional from Capital City Club, who led after the first two rounds thanks to a brilliant 7-under-par opening round and steady 1-under-par second round. Cordes, who posted rounds of 4-under-par 66 and 2-under-par 68 to stay in contention, saved his best for last as the championship came down to the wire.
Also in the final pairing was Matt Sanders, PGA Assistant Professional at West Pines Golf Club, who began the day tied with Cordes at 6-under-par and added excitement with a hole-in-one on the par-3 168 yard 6th hole. With three holes left to play, Cordes, Bide, and Sanders were locked in a three-way tie, setting the stage for a thrilling finish before Cordes sealed the victory with his birdie on 18.
“It’s been a long time,” Cordes said. “Winning is hard when you’re playing against a lot of good players and the competition is always great. I am very thankful for the support I’ve gotten from my friends, fellow professionals, and the Georgia PGA staff. This one is very special.”
The championship also served as a qualifier for the 2025 PGA of America Professional Championship, where Cordes, Bide, Sanders, Jeff Cammon, PGA Coaching Professional at Sea Island Golf Club, and Jacob Tilton, PGA Coaching Professional of Ansley Golf Club, earned their place among the nation’s top club professionals.
