Lincoln, NE – Eighty junior golfers representing 34 U.S. states and one Canadian province, have earned an invitation to compete at Augusta National Golf Club for the 12th annual Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals – which will be played on Sunday, April 5, 2026, prior to the start of the 90th Masters Tournament.
Conducted in partnership with the USGA, the Masters Tournament and the PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free, nationwide youth golf development program open to boys and girls, ages 7-15, in four age divisions. The three-pronged competition tests the skills essential to playing the game: accuracy in driving, chipping and putting.
Lincoln’s Jack Flynn earned a trip to the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club after an impressive showing at the Regional Final at Hazeltine National Golf Club. Lincoln, NE – Described as their ‘Super Bowl’, 104 PGA HOPE Nebraska graduates gathered at Hillcrest Country Club for the sixth annual PGA HOPE Nebraska Cup. One of the most special days of the year, the current and former military personnel were divided into teams based on the military branch they represent for a competitive scramble. In addition to the competition, the day allows for the PGA HOPE graduates to meet other individuals from different classes and the camaraderie through shared experiences makes it that much more important of an event.
“For both our staff and our Members, this is an event we look forward to hosting each and every year. It’s a small way for us to give back to the people that have given so much to us”, said Director of Golf Mike Brown, PGA of Hillcrest Country Club.
Teams of 8 were divided up into teams of 4, with one half of the team playing the front nine and the other playing the back nine. They combined their 9-hole scramble scores for a complete 18-hole team score. Every branch of the military was represented, including the U.S. Space Force for the first time. For the second straight year, the U.S. Army captured the title with an impressive score of 67 (5-under).
“The golf course was beautiful, and the day was a special one to be a part of. When I signed up for PGA HOPE, I didn’t realize the experience would continue after the original program. Being able to stay engaged through events like today’s HOPE Cup is awesome”, said Army Veteran Chris Jensen.
Bellevue, NE – New in 2025, the Nebraska Section PGA introduced a brand-new event on the Section tournament schedule to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Nebraska PGA — the Centennial Cup.
A total of 32 Nebraska PGA Professionals were selected to compete in the inaugural event, representing two teams: Team Omaha and Team World. Platteview Golf Club served as the host venue for the first year of this special competition, which featured a Ryder Cup–style format.
The morning session featured 18-hole team matches, played in pairs. The front nine followed a four-ball format, while the back nine switched to alternate shot. In the afternoon, players competed in 9-hole singles matches, going head-to-head.
Every hole in every match was worth one point, for a total of 288 points available. To claim the Cup, a team needed to surpass 144.5 points.
After the first 18 holes in the morning, Team World took a small lead into the afternoon single matches with a score of 73.5 to 70.5. Though the day offered an opportunity for NEPGA Members from all across the Section to reunite, competitive juices were flowing, and the afternoon matches were set up for a dramatic finish.
In the singles matches, Jon Petersen led the way for Team Omaha collecting 8 points while Ryan Norman brought in 7.5 points. With a total score of 150.5 to 137.5, Team Omaha claimed the inaugural Centennial Cup in a tight battle in Bellevue.
Lincoln, NE – Highlands Golf Course welcomed both Nebraska PGA Professionals and UNL PGA Golf Management students for a full day of competition featuring simultaneous events.
Leading up to the championship, Nebraska PGA Professionals competed in a season-long points race to qualify for the 28-player, professional-only Vinnie Krikac State Farm Insurance Agency Nebraska PGA Cup Series Championship. Players were seeded based on scoring average and battled in an 18-hole qualifying round, with the top five (and ties) advancing to the afternoon alternate-shot shootout for the title.
In addition, a team event paired two NEPGA Professionals with two UNL PGM students in a unique four-person format. The front nine was contested as best-ball, while the back nine shifted to a scramble. This structure provided a special opportunity for current PGA Members to connect with aspiring professionals from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Play began with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. In the professional qualifying round, Mike Coatman of Firethorn Golf Club and Alex Carper, PGA of Alex Carper Golf delivered one of the most impressive performances in tournament history. The duo fired a flawless bogey-free 18 holes, carding 10 birdies and two eagles to finish at 14-under par, leading the field. Close behind were Tony Driscoll, PGA (Whispering Woods GC) and Carson Schaake (Tiburon GC) at 11-under, followed by Mitch Klooz (Champions Run) and Kyle Schellpeper, PGA (Wayne CC) at 10-under. Four more teams tied at 9-under, setting up a seven-team alternate-shot shootout.
