With one year to go before he moves into the Association’s presidency, PGA of America Vice President Nathan Charnes was recently profiled by Evansville Living magazine. The 2026 Masters Tournament is still six months away, but a new book uses the annual major at Augusta National Golf Club as a way to see successful business best practices. Sports Illustrated recently ran a story on “The Augusta Principles,” a book written by longtime writer and golfer John Sabino that focuses on 10 principles the Masters follows that can help businesses prosper. Some of the leading businesses Sabino compares to Augusta National include Ritz-Carlton for adopting a mindset of continuous improvement and gas station/convenience store Buc-ees for focusing on the details. There are also examples of companies that follow Augusta National’s biggest principle pertaining to its patrons: Treat people with respect. Golf has been on a streaming roll in 2025, with “Happy Gilmore 2” starring Adam Sandler and the third season of “Full Swing” featuring the likes of Wyndham Clark and Mark Wahlberg proving popular with Netflix viewers. So, get ready for more golf-related content. Golfweek reports that Netflix is prepping a new comedy series that will star Will Ferrell and Luke Wilson as playing rivals. This will be the first series to star Ferrell, who famously paired with Wilson in the movie “Old School.” The unnamed Netflix show has been in the works since 2023 according to the story, and will feature Ferrell as a legendary tour player. In real life, Ferrell is a member at Los Angeles’ Wilshire Country Club and an active supporter of the Cancer for Colleges Classy Golf Classic, a golf event that awards college scholarships to juniors fighting cancer.

The game of golf – and the PGA of America – lost a beloved member of the family recently with the death of longtime PGA of America Golf Professional Dave Kendall. A Past President of the Michigan PGA Section who won Golf Professional of the Year and Teacher & Coach of the Year honors in the Section, Kendall passed away in September after a battle with cancer. Michigan Golf Journal ran a touching tribute to Kendall, which included a story from 2024 recounting how Kendall continued to play golf through his cancer treatments, while finding comfort in his friendships with fellow PGA of America Golf Professionals. The story also notes that in one of his last events, Kendall shot his age – 70 – in the Michigan Senior PGA Professional Championship just two months before his death. The staff of PGA Magazine sends its thoughts to Kendall’s wife, Karen, and family.
