Statement on the passing of Don Wegrzyn, 88, in Libertyville, Illinois, on June 11, 2026:
“We are saddened to learn that Don Wegrzyn, a PGA of America Hall of Fame Member inducted in 2023, has passed away at the age of 88. A PGA of America Member since 1963, representing the Illinois PGA Section, Don earned PGA Master Professional status in 1994, achieving the highest education designation available through the PGA of America.
“A dedicated leader, Don served on the PGA Board of Directors, representing District 6, and served on multiple committees, including the PGA Rules Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and Audit Committee. At the Section level, Don served on the Illinois PGA Board from 1972–87 and was elected and served as Section President in 1980–81.
“A three-time PGA Professional Development Award winner in his PGA Section, Don was voted Illinois PGA Professional of the Year in 1980 and was elected to the Illinois Golf Hall of Fame in 1999, among other honors.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Don’s family and friends in the Illinois PGA Section.”
Two of the game’s most prestigious junior tournaments — the Junior PGA Championships, comprised of boys and girls ages 18-and-under in stroke play competition — were scheduled for July 28–31 at Fields Ranch East (pictured) and West at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas.
