Brad Lardon, PGA, continued his historic run by capturing his eighth Sun Country PGA Senior Section Professional Championship at The Club at Las Campanas. He was the lone player finishing under par with rounds of 68-69=137 (-7). Also punching their tickets to the national championship at even par were Steve Manning, PGA (Los Altos GC) and PGA Life Member Kent Jones
Meanwhile, the concurrent Section Assistant Professional Championship turned into a family affair. Javier Delgadillo II (Horizon Golf & Conference Center) absolutely dominated the field, blistering the course with a 13-under-par 131 (64-67) to take the title. The storyline of the tournament was that the nearest competition came from Javier II's father Javier I at +4, who will represent the Section at the national championship. This was only Javier II's second Section tournament, as he recently graduated from New Mexico State University.
Brad Lardon, PGA, had another Section win this month with partner Ben Tolsma, PGA. The duo from The Club at Las Campanas won the Section's Pro-Pro at Tanoan CC with rounds of 65-62=127 (-17). In second place came Mark Gonzalez, PGA, (Studio Golf) and Devin Miertschin, PGA (Lone Star GC), who finished one stroke back at -16.
Four-time PGA TOUR winner and Member of the Sun Country PGA Section, Notah Begay III has been named the recipient of the Payne Steward Award presented by Southern Company, honoring his character, sportsmanship, and commitment to charitable giving.
Begay III, 53, will be honored Tuesday, August 25, at the Payne Stewart Award Ceremony in conjunction with the 2026 TOUR Championship. Golf Channel will televise the ceremony as part of a “Golf Central” special from 7-8 p.m. ET at the Southern Exchange in downtown Atlanta.
