Forty-four years ago, the Connecticut Section operated its first Connecticut Senior Open. Year’s later, the “Summer Classic” held at Shennecossett Golf Course yields talent from across the country.
This year's event was as closely contested as ever with John Balmer (Sarasota, FL) finishing at 6-under after rounds of 68-68-136 to edge runner-up Charlie Blanchard (Warwick, RI) by one stroke.
Finishing third was Robert Tramonti (North Kingstown, RI) followed by several players tied for fourth including defending champion Bobby Gage (Lake Worth, FL).
Member events pick back up in August with the playing of our Assistants Championship on 24th at Clinton Country Club and the The Senior Championship on the 26th and 27th hosted by Hop Meadow Country Club.
A tip of the golf cap to Section Member Nathan Grube whose continued leadership of the Travelers Championship has garnered almost $5million in support of 270 charities.
The section mourns the loss of former Section President Michael O' Grady who recently passed away. Mike served as Head Professional for 30 years at the Lake Waramaug Country Club.
