Brian Smock, PGA, of Coronado Golf Course, won the SCPGA Senior Section Championship with a seven-under par, 135, at Goose Creek Golf Club.
Smock will join 10 SCPGA Section Members at the Senior PGA Professional Championship that will be held from October 23-26, 2025, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Beginning the day one stroke off the lead, Smock displayed composed and consistent play on the back nine, recording a bogey-free stretch with two birdies to ultimately claim the lead in regulation. Smock’s final round of four-under par, 67, earns him his first Senior Section Championship title along with a $5,000 first-place payout.
“I got off to a rough start, I’m not going to lie,” said Smock. “I kind of just laughed it off and kept going, and I’m just proud of myself on how fast I got over that. There were a lot of great scores out there today. I didn’t know where I stood coming down to the final holes, so it was really nice to make a four on 18, which is one of the toughest holes in Southern California. Being able to win was pretty cool. I’m getting old, but I still have a couple of years left in me.”
Special thanks to Goose Creek Golf Club and Head Golf Professional Ross Fisher, PGA, for hosting the Championship!
Thank you to our rules officials: Gary Albin, Lee Wortman, Marc Dauber, Robert Bittner, in addition to Honorary Starter, Andy Thuney, PGA.

The SCPGA Foundation proudly hosted the inaugural Play Yellow Birdie Bash on Monday, July 14 at South Hills Country Club, bringing together PGA Professionals, community leaders, and passionate supporters for a day of purpose-driven golf.
With nearly $60,000 raised, this event will benefit both Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) through the Play Yellow initiative and the SCPGA Foundation, supporting its core pillars: PGA HOPE for Veterans, Junior Golf, Scholarships, and Community Outreach across Southern California.
We were honored to welcome several special guests, including representatives from Assembly member Blanca Rubio and State Senator Susan Rubio’s offices, as well as members of the Play Yellow national team and CHLA. A particularly moving moment came during the lunch program, where event ambassadors Duncan and Nohea Avery shared their family’s story and the lasting impact CHLA had on their children’s care.
A heartfelt thank you to our hosts, John Kulow, PGA, and Cortney Shrout, PGA, for welcoming us to South Hills Country Club and helping create such a meaningful day. Their support and hospitality played a key role in making this event a success.
To all who played, pledged, donated, or shared this cause, thank you for proving that golf is more than a game. It’s a vehicle for hope, healing, and lasting change.
