We are three events into our Individual Stroke Play season and three champions have been named.
Willow Brook Country Club played host to the Prize Possessions | E-Z-GO Eastern Championship in early June. Colton Hilburn, Associate at Abilene Country Club, was named the Open Division champion. His first round 35-31–66, 5-under-par, earned him the win by one-stroke, after the event was shortened due to weather. Hilburn’s 31 on the back-nine was the best of the Championship, and his closing birdie on the 18th hole proved to be the difference maker.
On July 1, Matt Lohmeyer, PGA director of instruction at SLICGOLF, claimed the Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship after rounds of 69-68–137, 7-under-par at Fields Ranch West at PGA Frisco. Eight other NTPGA members will be joining Lohmeyer at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in April for the PGA Professional Championship.
Qualifiers:
Matt Lohmeyer, PGA director of instruction at SLICGOLF
Chris Brown, PGA TOUR Caddie
Brian Norman, PGA instructor at Lakewood Country Club
Angella Then, PGA director of instruction at Indian Creek Golf Club
Matt Ryba, PGA assistant professional at Preston Trail Golf Club
Clint Avara, PGA instructor at TGA Premier Sports - Collin County
Keith Harris, PGA director of golf at White Bluff Resort
Spencer Dillard, PGA head professional at Preston Trail Golf Club
Brandon Bingaman, PGA assistant professional at Gleneagles Country Club
At the Golf Pro Payments Western Championship Jarred Jeter, PGA assistant professional at Shady Oaks Country Club captured the title at Midland Country Club after a playoff. He carded rounds of 67-70–137, 7-under-par and made a par on the first playoff hole to secure the victory.
Before moving to Shady Oaks Country Club Jeter was the assistant professional at Midland Country club for four years. This title eluded him each of those years although he finished inside the top three in 2023 and 2024. “It feels amazing. The fact that I’ve been so close, so many times over the past three years and to finally get it done in such dramatic fashion,” he said.
The win marks Jeter’s third NTPGA Section Major Championship victory and he earned $4,500.
Once again the Northern Texas PGA Foundation has broken our own college scholarship giving record. In 2025 the Foundation awarded $768,000 to 82 students.
The 2025 scholarship amounts vary from $2,500 to $20,000. In addition, two students were awarded a “last-dollar” full scholarship to two of the Foundation’s partner schools, the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNTD) and the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
Since 1983, the Northern Texas PGA Foundation has awarded over $6 million in college scholarships to 922 deserving students.
“Surpassing $6 million in scholarships awarded this year is an incredible milestone for our Foundation,” said Mark Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Texas PGA. “More importantly, it represents meaningful opportunities for 81 remarkable students who are continuing their journey in higher education. This level of impact is only possible because of the generous individuals and partners who believe in our mission and share our commitment to supporting the next generation. To our partners, donors and all those that participate in fundraising events that benefit our Foundation, thank you. And to this year’s scholarship recipients, congratulations. Your future is full of promise, and we’re honored to be a part of your path forward.”
This year, of the scholarships awarded, 67% were based on financial need, academic performance, extracurricular activities and community involvement, while 33% were awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and community involvement.
