Brandon Bingaman, PGA assistant professional at Gleneagles Country Club, won the Duel in the Desert to claim the 2025 Yamaha Golf-Car Company | Srixon and Nike Match Play Championship Open Division title. Rob Shields, PGA member at The Winsford Group, claimed the Senior Division title.
Both players battled their way through the field at White Bluff Resort back in October before heading south to Lajitas Golf Resort in mid-December to compete for the title and $10,000 in the 36-hole final match.
After 18 holes, the No. 2 seeded Bingaman had a 2UP lead over No. 12 Jon Antunes, PGA director of instruction at Heart of Texas Golf Academy. Bingaman proceeded to birdie four of the first five holes to start the second round, cruising to a 7&5 victory.
In the Senior Division, Shields faced Billy Harris, PGA Life Member. A back-and-forth match resulted in a 3&2 win for Shields. He earned $5,000 for his victory.
This was the fourth year that the Open Division championship match was conducted in Lajitas, and the second year the Senior Division joined them. Both Bingaman and Shields were crowned match play champions for the first time.
During 2025, the Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour conducted more than 450 tournaments, serving a membership of over 4,300 junior golfers. These events were spread across three different Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tours: the Prep Tour, the Medalist Tour and the All American Tour.
The three tours allow for junior golfers, aged 6-19, of all skill levels to play competitive rounds of golf. In 2025, a total of 28,550 rounds were played across the Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour.
In 2026, the Northern Texas PGA Foundation added the Randy Smith Tour to the Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour player pathway. This non-competitive tour gives new players an introduction to the game of golf in a fun and welcoming environment. The tour will focus on teaching newcomers that golf is about more than just scores.
The Randy Smith Tour will add 10-12 events to the Junior Tour schedule this year, and as many as 25 events starting in 2027.
The NTPGA looks forward to another year of providing ample opportunities for juniors to play golf.
