Greenbelt Happenings
On March 19th, the sky was clear, the temperatures were mild and conditions were perfect for the first Walk with a Doc of the season.
About a dozen participants gathered at Reservoir Park along with Hershey Medical Center’s Dr. Everett Hills who spoke about the importance of heart health and the impacts of diet, high blood pressure, sugar, and rehabilitation on the heart. Many of the participants were new to the Walk with a Doc program and to Reservoir Park.
Seven hearty folks showed up for the April 7th Walk With a Doc amble that started at Veterans Park for a stroll on the Greenbelt. Yes, there are only six in the photo, but the photographer walked as well.
Thank you to Dr. Deepa Sekhar, MD, MSc for donating her time and expertise about children’s health. Dr. Sekhar is the Executive Director of Penn State PRO Wellness and Professor of Pediatrics at Penn State College of Medicine.
The Walk With A Doc program is designed to provide general health information and a moderately paced walk with the fellowship of others.
It is an education program and not meant to replace the advice of your physician.
Walks are free, but we ask that you pre-register so we know how many to expect and are able to notify you in the event of a weather-related cancellation.
The walks are typically 2 to 3 miles in length, always with options to turn around to make it shorter.
All ages are welcome, as are children and leashed dogs. Walkers are advised to bring water.
These walks are coordinated by Susquehanna Township Parks & Recreation, the Capital Area Greenbelt Association, Penn State Health, and Dauphin County Parks and Recreation. They are part of the Park Rx series of wellness programs sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield and supported by Penn State Health.
