With no majors visiting the Chicago District in 1995, the volume of publications relied on annual staples such as the Western Open and Illinois State Amateur, won by eventual PGA Tour regular D.A. Winter
The CDGA’s efforts to engage youth golfers, still ongoing to this day, were spotlighted on the cover of this edition. Golf travel was also a theme present throughout the issue, with Arizona and Lake Michigan’s shoreline being notable destinations.
May/June
Did you know a golf course once existed in the heart of downtown Chicago? Illinois Center Golf and its TPC Sawgrass replica hole graced the cover of this edition, with a feature story inside highlighting the then-new facility. It would close in 2001.
July/August
Always one of golf’s unique intricacies, various caddie programs from the Chicago District were brought to the forefront via this publication. Additionally, the CDGA Turfgrass Program’s environmentally conscious initiatives were explained in depth.
September/October
With tournament season in full swing, sights from the CDGA Amateur Championship at Stonebridge Country Club, Radix Cup Matches at Oak Park Country Club, Motorola Western Open at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club and Ameritech Senior Open at Stonebridge comprised the bulk of content in this penultimate piece.
November/December
Before heading to his freshman year at LSU, Pekin resident D.A. Points would win his first Illinois State Amateur Championship, as seen in the 1995 retrospective. Points would eventually transfer to Illinois and win two more State Ams before becoming a three-time PGA Tour winner.
