On Sunday, Sept. 14, the amount of points surrendered by the Chicago Bears against the Detroit Lions was more than half the number of holes played by a group of avid golfers at The Evans at Canal Shores.
In the “Monsters of the Midway” era, that would have meant a regular 18-hole round and a stifling Bears defense manifesting a low-scoring 10-9 victory. On this day, however, it took 100 holes to essentially double the Lions’ 52 points.
Wait, 100 holes?!
Yes, a handful of bold participants spent their Sunday traversing the recently renovated par-60 layout more than five times as part of the Youth on Course 100 Hole Hike. A unique fundraiser conducted at numerous sites throughout the country, this marked the first iteration to be held within the Chicago District.
In total, 14 participants raised more than $40,000 to benefit Youth on Course, a program that provides affordable access to young golfers by way of rounds for $5 or less.
