The Aloha PGA Section recently conducted its annual Pau Hana meetings. Pau Hana is a Hawaiian term for “end of work or finished working.”
In Hawaiian culture, it is customary to gather with friends and family after a hard day’s work to strengthen relationships. This custom has been a useful tool to bring together our members for discussions on PGA of America matters, as well as other golfing-related subjects.
However, it is our mission to spread the Aloha Spirit through constantly being close with everyone. This closeness is vital for working together for this important mission. It has been very successful for many years and is an important part of the ASPGA’s existence.
The Pau Hana meetings were held on each of the major islands and were conducted by Aloha Section Executive Director Wes Wailehua. Members were informed of recent events and were invited to an open discussion. All of our members had a wonderful time discussing various topics. These informal gatherings often prove to be a lot more productive than the traditional and more formal meetings.
The ASPGA Board of Directors would like to thank Hualalai Director of Golf Brendan Moynahan, King Kamehameha Director of Golf Ricky Castillo, Pearl Country Club Director of Golf Ed Kageyama and Poipu Director of Golf Chad Dusenberry for serving as gracious PGA of America hosts for the Islands’ Pau Hana meetings. —Lance Taketa, PGA

In 2009, the Nebraska PGA Section (NEPGA) and Nebraska Golf Association (NGA) came together to introduce the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour (NJGT). In its first year, the NJGT offered 45 junior golf events and nearly 500 junior golfers played in at least one event.
After the fourth season concluded, the NEPGA and NGA decided to rebrand and remodel NJGT while continuing their great partnership. In 2013, the Junior Golf Tour became a true organization and a one-stop shop for all things junior golf across the Section.
Newly dubbed Nebraska Junior Golf (NJG) was an umbrella organization for all junior programs, and would also include an avenue to other opportunities for juniors to learn and play the game throughout the state. NJG provides junior golfers of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn and play the game of golf.
More than a decade later, NJG runs a Spring Junior Series, Summer Tour, Fall Junior Series and even Adult/Junior events. In all, NJG runs more than 65 events, which includes both 9- and 18-hole options for juniors ages 7-18. The new model has opportunities for all skill levels.
In addition, NJG promotes playing opportunities that are offered by the NEPGA, NGA, Drive, Chip and Putt, and the First Tee of Omaha.
In 2024, almost 1,000 junior golfers across Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota registered and competed in NJG events, showing the incredible growth since its inception. Along with the numbers, the quality of the player has improved as more alumni than ever have gone on to compete in college.
As NJG gears up for another great season in 2025, one thing remains the same: The game is growing and the future of golf is healthier than ever across the Nebraska Section. —Brett Renner

Seeing Stephanie Connelly-Eiswerth, PGA, play well in tournaments is no surprise. It was thrilling to see her excel on the Epson Tour stage when she competed in back-to-back Epson Tour events.
The 2023 and ‘24 Women’s PGA Professional Player of the Year received a sponsor’s exemption into the Atlantic Beach Classic presented by Access Golf at Atlantic Beach Country Club. She finished 2-over with scores of 75-71-69 and turned the sponsor’s exemption into a T10 finish. This was good enough to earn her another start the following week in the Epson Tour’s IOA Golf Classic presented by Aperture at Alaqua Country Club. She carded rounds of 73-69-69 to finish at 2-under and T21. She made the final round even more memorable by making a hole-in-one on No. 2.
The NFPGA was so proud of how Stephanie competed and the way she represented the Section in these Epson Tour events.
NFPGA Members had the opportunity to give back to the game on March 5 as they filled the role of PGA Ambassadors for the Wednesday Pro-Am at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.
The role of these PGA Ambassadors was to walk with the Wednesday Pro-Am groups, assist in keeping pace of play moving, and help create a memorable experience for the amateurs participating in the event. Sometimes that meant pulling flagsticks, looking for golf balls in the deep rough at Bay Hill, or having a friendly conversation with an amateur. All these things that our NFPGA Members did added up to help the Wednesday Pro-Am be an incredible day at a historic PGA TOUR event. —Brandon Roll, PGA

A PGA of America Member since 2012, Geoff Koller has dedicated his career to growing the game and enhancing the golfer experience. He currently serves as the Senior Manager of Golf Clubhouse Operations for the Cleveland Metroparks, where he oversees nine facilities and ensures top-tier service for golfers of all skill levels.
A Chesterland, Ohio native, Geoff’s passion for golf began at Orchard Hills, where he played in a junior league and spent countless hours on the course with his father. He went on to study at Coastal Carolina University, earning a B.S. in Business Administration with a specialization in Professional Golf Management. His professional journey has included leadership roles at Seneca Golf Course, Fowler’s Mill Golf Course, Del Tura Country Club and the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame, where he played a key role in golfer development and course operations.
Geoff takes great pride in helping new golfers become lifelong enthusiasts and believes that strong communication and presence are essential in delivering an exceptional golf experience. His best advice for aspiring golf professionals is to treat every guest interaction like a job interview — going above and beyond with kindness and professionalism.
An interesting fact about Geoff is that although he is right-hand dominant, he plays golf left-handed, a family trait he shares with his father and brother.
He remains passionate about giving back to the game and actively supports PGA HOPE programming at metroparks courses, a program that introduces Veterans to golf as a form of therapy and recreation.
For Geoff, success is determined by the number of new golfers he introduces to the game, the increase of casual golfers to frequent golfers, and the recovery of any discouraged golfers. And Geoff Koller is doing just that in his role at the Cleveland Metroparks. —Danielle Monas

Stuart Hendley, PGA, Director of Instruction, and PGA Associate Zach Sudinsky from Dallas Athletic Club captured the title by two strokes. The two carded a bogey-free, 11-under-par final score after shooting 64 on Old American Golf Club and 32 on the back nine of Tribute Golf Links.
The Championship was presented by Ahead, Club Car, Evolve Golf, Landmark Golf Course Products, Tagmarshal, THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson and Winston Collection.
This summer, the NTPGA will conduct the Section’s first-ever Women’s Section Championship. It is set to be played Aug. 11-12 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
The Section felt it was important to begin this new Championship to provide an opportunity for the nearly 100 women members and associates to compete solely against each other.
The Championship also provides an opportunity for the Section to enhance our partnership with Lajitas Golf Resort, which will be the title sponsor, as well as bring on new presenting partner A. Putnam.
“Our staff saw a special opportunity to enhance our partnership with Lajitas Golf Resort and the creation of the Lajitas Golf Resort NTPGA Women’s Section Championship,” says NTPGA CEO Mark Harrison. “It is great to have their support for this tournament.” —Steven Clements

Jeff Whitaker’s story begins in the rolling hills of East Tennessee, where he grew up on a tobacco farm in a hardworking, blue-collar family. His early years were shaped by long days of tough work and a few college courses.
At 25, he enlisted in the Air Force as a Communications-Computer Systems Operator. Over the years, Whitaker served in various locations across the country — from Texas to Virginia, Florida to Tennessee. However, his most fulfilling role didn’t involve computers; it was about people. As a First Sergeant, he dedicated himself to taking care of his fellow Airmen, working alongside squadron commanders to strengthen their teams and improve performance. After decades of service, Whitaker stepped away in 2021, taking a sabbatical to rediscover life beyond duty.
One of his rediscoveries was golf. Growing up, Whitaker loved watching the game with his father, but playing it proved difficult. It wasn’t until his Air Force days that he tried again, joining friends who made the game look easy. Their precision inspired him to improve. With time and dedication, Whitaker found his rhythm, thanks in part to PGA HOPE.
Whitaker became a proud graduate of the PGA HOPE Legacy Program, led by PGA Certified instructor Kevin Holler. Initially, he joined the program for fun, to learn a few tips and connect with fellow Veterans. What he found went beyond golf — a community of Veterans of all skill levels, with PGA of America Professionals offering guidance that was both technical and personal.
Golf gave Whitaker the confidence to play in new situations, improving his game with just one tip that added 10 yards to his shots. After graduating, he returned to the workforce at The Little Course, embracing a fun, family-friendly environment. Now, Whitaker is working toward becoming a PGA of America Professional, sharing the joy of golf and helping others grow. —Kelsey Ludwigsen

The WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am came to a close on March 12. It was another terrific week of golf, fellowship and a whole lot of fun. The field was fortunate to have a nice week of weather. It marked the 10th straight year the event has featured at least 50 teams.
For the second time, the tournament featured two completely separate divisions of play. The sold-out 50-team field was split into two divisions of 25. An opportunity to feature some of the top private Las Vegas clubs in the course rotation was too good to pass up, which was the main reason why the event required two overall competitions.
The 2025 edition featured a return to the Park MGM for the lodging. As for the golf, all 250 players would get the opportunity to play Cascata and Rio Secco. The third course would differ, however, as the Diamond Division featured Jack Nicklaus-designed SouthShore C.C. On the other side of the draw, the Hearts Division visited the Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. co-designed Southern Highlands G.C.
The teams battled some windy conditions for rounds 2 and 3. In the Hearts Division, the Ridgeway C.C. team of Ryan Helminen, Kou Xiong, Matt Butch, Jesse Troestler and Tyler Cleaves would get the job done by a narrow one-shot margin over the Michael Grossman-led squad that made up nine shots on the last day.
As for the Diamond Division, the winning team would come from Blackhawk C.C. in Madison. Derek Schnarr, PGA, led his team of Paul Graham, Van Stoutt, Brent Reed and Scott VanderSanden to a one-shot win over the team from Whitnall Park led by Professional James Grogan, PGA. —Andy Landenberger
