Providing players with structured guidance between lessons can make a significant difference in their development. Inspired by the success of fitness professionals who offer custom workout programs, Andrew Brewer, PGA, Director of Instruction at Princess Anne Country Club Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia, introduced monthly practice plans as a way to enhance engagement and accountability among his students.
“As golf coaches, we are often asked for session notes or drills to work on at home after every lesson,” says Brewer (pictured with students). “But without a formal structure, there’s no guarantee players will follow through.”
Brewer addressed this by offering personalized practice plans on a subscription basis. Using the CoachNow app, he provides each golfer with a tailored program that includes full swing, short game and putting drills. During lessons, he records videos of the exercises and uploads them directly to the app, streamlining the process and ensuring players have clear guidance between sessions.
The result? More students actively working on assigned drills and noticeable improvement in their practice habits. Plus, it has introduced a new revenue stream in the form of subscriptions.
Priced at $100 per month, the program has encouraged more players to commit to long-term coaching packages. Those who previously booked occasional lessons have transitioned to purchasing multi-session packs, which now include practice plans as part of the offering.
“Even members who don’t take lessons have opted in,” Brewer adds. “They can get that structured guidance on their own time without having to be on the lesson tee.”
For instructors looking to increase revenue while adding value, this provides a scalable way to enhance player engagement, improve retention and establish a consistent coaching relationship.
