One of golf’s best-known PGA of America Coaches has signed off from a long run in front of the camera. 2008 PGA of America Teacher & Coach of the Year Martin Hall’s last episode of “School of Golf” aired March 31 after 15 years on Golf Channel and GolfPass. Forbes.com recently ran a story commemorating Hall’s retirement from the show at age 68, and his desire to walk away before he reached his “sell-by date.” Hall filmed more than 400 episodes with a number of co-hosts and guest stars, and helped bring televised golf instruction into a new era of technology. He now plans to continue coaching part-time at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach, Florida, while spending more time traveling and relaxing with his wife, Lisa. We wish Martin well and congratulate him on the lasting impact “School of Golf” has made on golf instruction.

If you’re a fan of the TV game show “The Price is Right,” you know one of the many challenges participants may find themselves playing is a putting game called “Hole in One.” Guess what game was on tap when PGA of America Golf Professional Travis Britt found himself onstage with Drew Carey during a recent taping? That’s right, Britt was putting for a new car in front of a live studio audience. The PGA of America Assistant Professional at Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles steeled his nerve and knocked in the putt, winning a Hyundai Venue SUV and sharing a fist pump with the viewers at home. Golfweek ran a story on Britt’s TV adventure, which includes a link to footage of the winning putt.

Tiger Woods isn’t ex-pected to play much golf in the coming months as he rehabs his injured Achilles, but he’s still making a major impact on the golf world. PhillyVoice recently re ported on Woods’ TGR Foundation opening a science education center at Cobbs Creek Golf Club in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 30,000-square-foot TGR Learning Lab is the first part of a $150 million revamping of the historic Cobbs Creek property, which closed in 2020. The Cobbs Creek Foundation has been working to renovate the property with two restored golf courses, a practice area and a new clubhouse and restaurant, and the TGR Learning Lab is leading the way. The lab will host science courses for middle school students, as well as field trips, tutoring programs and other social events that are free to area youngsters. This is the second TGR Learning Lab, following the opening of a similar facility in Anaheim, California, in 2006.
