Until fairly recently, selling pants in the golf shop was often a nagging challenge for many PGA of America Professionals. For men, shops were often limited to Dockers-style khakis in as many waist sizes and lengths as possible, while women were hard-pressed to find anything outside of a few styles that matchy-matched the tops in any given collection.
Fast forward to 2025 and the whole bottoms landscape has changed. Men’s pants now come in many cuts and designs, including updated classic and athletic styles, and the sky’s the limit for women – as more lifestyle focused collections present a variety of silhouettes that work for golf, the gym, running errands or even certain social events.
“The golf apparel industry has made tremendous strides in the bottoms category,” says Patrick Crow, PGA of America Director of Golf at Chicago Highlands Club in Westchester, Illinois. “A few years ago, men were limited to traditional styles, which were functional but not particularly versatile or modern. Today, we’re seeing an explosion of options, including slim-fit trousers, joggers and even performance stretch pants that cater to a wide range of tastes and body types.
“On the women’s side, the shift has been equally dramatic, with more options in skorts, leggings and cropped pants. These designs reflect broader trends in athleisure and fashion, emphasizing both style and functionality. Without question, bottoms are no longer just a necessity; they’re becoming a statement piece in the golfer’s wardrobe, and for shops this means an opportunity to stock a wider variety of styles, fits and price points to appeal to different demographics.”
