We all probably have more than one hero in our lives. I count family members as heroes for a lifetime of things they’ve done for me. My wife is one of my heroes for her selfless spirit and the sacrifices she makes for her family. I’ve watched with pride as my kids have grown into amazing adults doing things that I’m sure qualify them as heroes to others.
And my coaches? The PGA of America Golf Professionals who nurtured my love for the game, and the ones who have supported and encouraged me throughout my career in golf, are in my Heroes Hall of Fame.
Did you know that you are a hero? By the very nature of our business, you facilitate experiences that enrich people’s lives. Maybe not every person who walks into your shop would count you among their heroes, but definitely more than you might think.
Quality Time
I’m sure you can relate to busy schedules that get in the way of the things we’d like to do or wish we had more time to do. You’ve certainly heard that phrase when golf is the topic of the conversation. Well, you have the solution for families wishing they had both more time together, and more time on the golf course: PGA Family Golf. Offering it to families can elevate you to hero status in their eyes.
Why PGA Family Golf?
You might already host a family event. If so, great! Make it a PGA Family Golf event and enjoy more benefits for yourself. In 2025, teams that include a registered PGA Jr. League player will have their $25 annual Family Golf team fee waived. Sure, it’s only $25, but this benefit is designed to appeal to an audience who’s already inclined to appreciate the many benefits the game of golf brings them. The $25 fee will no longer be part of your overall event fee, making it easier for you to charge an amount that not only covers your expenses, but also enables you to make PGA Family Golf an additional revenue source for you, your facility and your staff.
We’ve learned from PGA Jr. League that PGA Coaches and participants both want to be involved with an official, national program. National program status provides a sense of belonging to something greater, something more significant, something more polished. And it’s not just the subjective benefits.
Hosting a PGA Family Golf event provides you with tangible benefits like two “required” PDRs per event hosted, 75 PGA Deferred Compensation points, PGA Player Engagement #GameChanger Award qualification when matched with qualifying PGA Jr. League criteria and ADM certification through PGA.Coach. It also organizes all event related administrative tasks in one place including registration, scheduling, team communication, event fee collection, scoring, and it’s just like PGA Jr. League so it’s simple to use for both PGA Jr. League coaches and participants.
You Provide the Ingredients – Families Bake the Cake
We all know the magic that happens between the first tee and the 18th green. The PGA Coach can be the catalyst for using this magic to bring families together and help them connect with each other. Using just 60 minutes on your tee sheet to facilitate quality time for 10 families (more or less), you can encourage families to spend quality time with each other playing golf. Once they’re out on the course, your work is pretty much done. The camaraderie that comes with participating as a team and the inherent benefits of the game is a recipe that creates memories to last a lifetime.
It’s likely not all the members in a family are golfers. That’s perfect for PGA Family Golf! We’ve simplified the format to mirror the one used at our PGA Family Golf National Championship. The recommended scramble format is perfect for two-, three- or four-player teams that can rotate players in and out for every shot. We’ve changed the concept to encourage team formats composed of any combination of family members: adults, kids, adults and kids, cousins, aunts and uncles, grand- parents. . . . You get the idea. Just create the format you want for your event and make it happen.
