Early next month, prestigious Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, is set to host its initial PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) presented by Chase, Kohler and ADT.
The 38th edition of the event, known as the “most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf,” will take place May 5–7 on the Straits and Irish courses. The Straits Course has hosted three PGA Championships (2004, 2010, 2015), a Ryder Cup (2021) and a U.S. Senior Open (2007).
“This event stands as a testament to our commitment to honoring the past, celebrating the present and shaping the future of golf,” says Kennie Sims, PGA, Senior Director of Impact for the PGA of America REACH Foundation.
“Our dedication to elevating this Championship year after year reflects the PGA of America’s core values. For us to bring it to Whistling Straits shows the commitment to support our student-athletes with world-class venues.”
The 2025 PWCC promises to be a showcase of talent, determination and sportsmanship. At the heart of the Championship lies its mission to highlight golf programs at underserved and underrepresented minority-serving institutions on a national stage, inspiring student-athletes to pursue career opportunities in the golf industry.
“I want to give a shout-out to the Kohler family for the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship going to Whistling Straits,” says PGA of America President Don Rea Jr. “They continue to support this program, which basically includes all of the historically Black colleges and minority-serving institutions. Thank you for that.”
The anticipation for the 2025 PWCC is amplified by the performances from 2024 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Notably, the Florida A&M University men’s golf team emerged as champions, solidifying their status as a top college golf program with a wire-to-wire victory. Led by senior Marcus Taylor, who earned Division I medalist honors, the Rattlers prevailed by a whopping 29 shots.
Meanwhile, the senior Lucie Charbonnier-led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women’s team recorded a 299 team score in the final round to finish at 56-over for the week and win by five shots.
Also taking place during PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship Week, the PGA WORKS Beyond the Green career exploration event, held annually at the PWCC, provides an opportunity for participating student-athletes to learn about and have access to various internships and employment opportunities in the golf industry, while learning from prominent golf companies and executives.
Editor’s note: Participating PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship schools and individuals will be listed in late April on PGAmagazine.com. A review of the 2025 PWCC will appear in the June issue of PGA Magazine.
