In addition to recognizing deserving PGA of America Professionals at the national level, awards given by the PGA of America’s 41 Sections highlight the outstanding and vital work being done across the country. On the next nine pages, Section award winners are recognized in the following categories:
PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year: Bestowed upon the PGA of America Professional who embodies the wide range of abilities and opportunities of the profession.
PGA of America Teacher & Coach of the Year: Based upon overall performance in teaching the game, implementation of innovative and special coaching programs, instruction of outstanding golfers, and publication of articles.
Bill Strausbaugh Award: Acknowledges a PGA of America Professional’s outstanding display of integrity, character and leadership in his or her commitment toward mentoring others within the Association.
PGA of America Professional Development Award: This honor goes to a PGA of America Member who displays commendable contributions to the education of PGA of America Professionals. Formerly the Horton Smith Award, the PGA of America Board of Directors voted in July 2020 to rename the award with this new designation.
PGA of America Golf Executive of the Year: Honors a PGA of America Golf Professional who demonstrates exemplary leadership, vision, courage, moral character and a substantial record of service to the PGA of America and the golf industry.
PGA of America Player Development Award: Recognizes a PGA of America Professional for extraordinary and exemplary contributions in growing the game and retaining existing golfers.
PGA of America Youth Player Development Award: Awarded to a PGA of America Professional who has displayed extraordinary and exemplary contributions and achievements in the area of youth player development in golf.
Patriot Award: Awarded to a PGA of America Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf, and demonstrates unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected the U.S.
Deacon Palmer Award: Bestows special recognition upon a PGA of America Professional who personally displays outstanding integrity, character and leadership in the effort to overcome a major obstacle in his or her life.
PGA of America Merchandiser of the Year: With separate awards for PGA of America Professionals at private, public and resort facilities, this award honors successful PGA merchandisers.
The names listed on the following pages are Section award winners from 2023 and 2024. PGA Magazine is aware that some Sections have already announced their 2025 award winners and those names will appear in the magazine early next year. We congratulate the nearly 400 recipients named, and salute them for their tireless efforts.
