Among the most notable course renovations in Chicago District golf history was Rees Jones’ overhaul of Cog Hill Golf & Country Club’s Dubsdread course, which was spotlighted in the first issue of 2009. Slated for later that year at Rich Harvest Farms, Solheim Cup preview coverage began with a conversation featuring U.S. captain Beth Daniel.
The 2009 Solheim Cup would mark the entrance of Jerry Rich’s Rich Harvest Farms to the international golf stage. This edition profiled Rich and his eagerness to welcome the world’s best. It also featured a conversation with notable media personality Mike Greenberg.
Central Illinois was the epicenter of this late summer issue, as University of Illinois men’s golf head coach Mike Small graced the cover after winning his second Professional National Championship. Meanwhile, Bloomington Country Club geared up for the Illinois State Amateur Championship and Springfield’s bevy of courses welcomed golfers from throughout the District.
It was a pupil of Small’s turn to take the spotlight in this edition, as Illini golfer Luke Guthrie claimed the Illinois State Amateur Championship at Bloomington CC. The aforementioned Dubsdread and its renovation also awaited the microscope of the BMW Championship.
As winter set it on the Chicago District, this volume finale reflected on the year that was, including recaps of the Solheim Cup, the U.S. Senior Amateur at Beverly Country Club and the Player of the Year campaigns of Brad Benjamin, Todd Mitchell and Dave Ryan.
