Have you ever realised a star was half your age and then wondered how they could possibly have accomplished so much more than you? Well we sure have!
For a perfect example of this, you only have to look at The Voice Kids, which launched on TV3 last month. Your favourite popstars might be getting on, but the entertainment industry’s future is in safe hands. The new TV3 show features will.i.am, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones coaching budding child divas, er stars, aged between six and 14.
The youngsters have plenty of success stories to inspire them – think Justin Bieber who started out singing in his bedroom, and Drew Barrymore, who made one of her first appearences in E.T. They started small but made it big! What follows is a selection of movies and TV shows on Virgin TV where some talented young actors are following suit.
▶ The Walking Dead - Tuesdays on RTE 2 @ 10pm (ch 102)
The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) is one child-star we wouldn’t want to mess with! Slaying zombies (and quite frankly anyone who crosses him) is what he does best, so perhaps we’ll see him in a silver screen action bockbuster soon. The sky’s the limit!
▶ Modern Family - Everyday on Sky 1 @ 5pm (ch 114)
Modern Family’s Nolan Gould, better known as (the hilarious) Luke Dunphy, is convincingly dimwitted on screen, but he’s apparently a bit of a whiz kid in real life. He’s appeared alongside Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in rom-com hit Friends With Benefits. So we can’t help but wonder where he’lll end up next.
▶ The Whispers - Virgin Box Sets (just click your On Demand button)
German-American child actress Kylie Rogers plays Minx Lawrence (what a name) in the Steven Spielberg-produced spooky science-fiction drama, The Whispers. At just 12 years of age, Kylie already has more than 20 films and television shows under her belt (most adult actors and actresses would probably kill to have her CV!).
▶ Sing Street - Available on Netflix (ch 999 on Virgin TV)
The Sing Street lads are popping in all sorts of interesting places since the release of John Carney’s brilliantly witty, nostalgic hit. Ferdia Walshe-Peelo (Cosmo, for those of you wo don’t know) bagged himself a role in The History channel’s gruesome favourite Vikings (showing on channel 217). While Percy Chamburuka (Ngig), having performed at multiple Irish festivals this year, seems to have a pretty promising hip-hop career ahead of him.
