Demand to be upgraded. I’ll have your job, you know!

Ask to see the manager. They always cave.

Use my smile to get an upgrade. It’s accepted in all major territories!

Not to worry. I’ll sort it. That foyer couch looks comfy…

Q3. The hotel restaurant is very busy and when you try to order the chicken starter, staff say they’ve run out, you:

Tell them that I’m eating chicken if they have to raise it and kill it themselves!

Explain to them the basic economics of supply and demand, and then grudgingly ask for a recommended substitute.

Tell the staff (with a cheeky grin) you’d have been better off making dinner yourself than order another option. Is the waiter or waitress single in this story?

Joke that once they don’t run out of cider you won’t complain!

Q4. Your group booked a tour through your hotel, but it was a waste of money. Is your group likely to nominate you to complain to hotel staff?

Most definitely. Complaining is on my CV under ‘hobbies and interests’.

Yes, if they’re not too scared to ask me a favour.

Maybe, and I can tell you now that I’d be better dressed than the average tour guide.

Nope, I’m not really that pushed about getting a refund, the tour wasn’t that bad. Who wants to see the Eifel Tower anyway?

Q5. You’re on the flight home when you find someone is sitting in your seat, you tell them this but they insist it’s their seat. You then:

Politely show them your ticket as proof and wait expectantly for them to move, staring a hole in their head.

Use it as an opportunity to start the first-class bump negotiations with staff.

Awkwardly make a joke in the hope of making light of the situation but insist you’re right.
