The 2025 Red River Cup Matches between the Texas Golf Association and the Oklahoma Golf Association will be contested Nov. 16-18 at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls.
Now in its second year, the invitation-only event brings together 18 of the top-ranked amateur golfers from each state for a good-natured but highly competitive annual team contest.
A unique aspect of the Red River Cup is the diverse composition of the starting lineups. Each team is comprised of eight male mid-amateurs, six male senior amateurs, and four women mid-amateurs, ensuring representation across various demographics within the two golfing communities.
Players are extended an invitation to be part of their respective teams by earning performance points for top finishes in designated tournaments held throughout the year. This competitive pathway emphasizes skill, dedication, and consistent performance on the golf course, which ensures the event features the best players from each state.
The makeup of the TGA Team will be determined as follows: top six mid-amateurs from State Player of the Year Standings, top mid-amateur from North Regional Player of the Year Standings, top mid-amateur from South Regional Player of the Year Standings, top six seniors from State Senior Player of the Year Standings, top three women’s mid-amateurs from Women’s Player of the Year Standings, and the top-ranked player from Women’s Senior Player of the Year Standings.
The Red River Cup features four-ball matches on day one, followed by singles matches on day two. Each match is worth three points; one point for the front nine, one point for the back nine, and one point for the overall 18 holes. In the case of a tie, each side will receive a half point.
The OGA Team captured the inaugural match, 53-28, at The Territory Golf & Country Club Duncan, Okla. The TGA Team will look to even things up, though, when the series heads back across state lines to Wichita Falls Country Club, a longtime member club and frequently visited tournament venue.
Founded in 1914, Wichita Falls Country Club is situated along Holliday Creek, nestled between Midwestern Parkway and Hamilton Boulevard. The par-71 course was completely renovated and redesigned in 2008 by D. A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard. The stunning transformation has resulted in an enjoyable, challenging layout with a wonderful mix of holes that meander through a beautiful parkland setting highlighted by stately oaks, elms, and pecan trees.
Over the years, the venerated club has staged a numerous variety of TGA competitions, nearly 20 in total, and most recently hosted the 2024 Women’s Texas Pinehurst, won by Patthawan Livingston and Tammy Trichell, and the 2025 North Regional Amateur, won by Blake Keen.
At the moment, the Sooner squad has bragging rights after the first-ever matchup, but the Lone Star side is eager to turn things around at Wichita Falls.
