Registration has opened for the 117th Texas Amateur presented by Hytera US, set for June 18-21 at Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Bee Cave. This will be the first Texas Amateur and fourth overall TGA championship to be held at Spanish Oaks, which previously hosted the 2024 Women’s Texas Amateur, 2016 Texas Mid-Amateur, and 2004 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play.
Nestled in the majestic Texas Hill Country just west of Austin, Spanish Oaks Golf Club has been consistently ranked inside the top ten on Golf Digest’s Best in Texas list since it opened in 2003. The course was designed by world-renowned architect Bobby Weed and is artfully routed through the natural environment with a compelling mix of holes trundling up and down over the rolling terrain. With an array of challenges, including numerous water hazards and deep bunkers protecting fast, sloping greens, as well as regularly gusting winds, the par-71 layout will certainly provide a thorough examination for the state’s best amateur golfers.
Adding to anticipation of the year’s first major championship is not only a chance to join the illustrious names etched on the H.L. Edwards Memorial Trophy, but to also secure a “golden ticket” to compete at one of America’s most storied venues later in the summer. As a designated USGA Exemption Event, the winner of the 117th Texas Amateur at Spanish Oaks earns full exemption into the 2026 U.S. Amateur, to be played August 10-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
The Texas Amateur is open to male amateur golfers who reside in the state of Texas and have an up-to-date WHS™ Handicap Index of 6.4 or less issued through a member club of the TGA. Online player registration can be accessed here, and entries will be accepted through Wednesday, March 25, at 5 p.m.
This year’s championship features a total of 17 exemption categories from qualifying, including exemptions earmarked specifically for eligible top finishers in the upcoming North Regional Mid-Amateur and South Regional Mid-Amateur.
For non-exempt players, qualifying sites are now set for 13 locations across the state. There will also be two Last Chance Qualifiers, with one in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and one in the Greater Houston area.
