One of my goals this season was to find a number of unique and creative accessories we could promote that would bolster impulse counter and display rack sales that could be logoed and customized to our facility. I brought in many out-of-the-box logoed items such as a variety of custom towels, imaginative headcovers and putter cover designs, divot tools, ball markers, hat clips and enticing new hat models with new club logos. My inspiration comes from many different places both within and outside the golf industry. I am always observing the amazing displays in the various golf shops that I have visited, read about and pictured in magazines. I also pay attention to other retailers of products that are similar and some that are diverse to the golf industry. I am constantly looking for color palettes, fabric features and color designs that will work well in our shop themes and presentations throughout the year. While accessories sales increased 5 to 7 percent year over year from 2022 to 2023, the larger increase came the year before in 2021 when it jumped 10 percent. This was due to the impact of new targeted merchandising where we actively sought out ways to increase our presence in the golf shop with enticing and imaginative new accessory items. The impact of these items can be seen in both the increases in tournament gift sales and everyday accessory sales, with players adding items to their golf arsenals. Again, continued overall golf shop sales at White Horse have increased the last 18 years in a row, fueling my desire to continue to think outside the box to find the next cache of sales items.
