For the third time in as many years, LIV Golf made its yearly stop to the Chicago District for LIV Golf Chicago. Hosting for the first time, Bolingbrook Golf Club welcomed thousands of golf fans to watch some of the world’s top players as the tour’s Individual Championship was on the line.
The maiden season for Jon Rahm on LIV Golf ended about as good as you can ask for. After numerous top-10 finishes on LIV and subpar performances at the majors, Rahm broke through and won two out of the last three LIV tournaments. Heading into LIV Golf Chicago, Rahm was neck-and-neck with Torque GC’s Joaquin Neimann in the race for the individual crown. Rounds of 69 and 64 in the first two rounds gave Rahm a one-shot lead over fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia. Rahm’s final round of the individual season was an under-control 66, leading to his second win of the season and an overall individual title. He earned a bonus of $18 million for claiming the season-long crown.
“Today was a special day in many ways. I woke up really nervous today, as I thought I would…” admitted Rahm in his post-round interview. “But I was just really happy to have played as well as I did. To go bogey-free on the weekend, one bogey all tournament, it’s quite spectacular. Very proud of how I played today and very proud of that putt on 17, which made 18 a lot easier.”
Finishing runner-up to Rahm was the Chilean Niemann, who fired off a final round 4-under 66 to claim his seventh top-five finish on the tour in 2024. The captain of Fireballs GC, Garcia, rounded out the top-three in third. The team competition belonged to 2024 U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau and his team, Crushers GC. The quartet of DeChambeau, Anirban Lahiri, Paul Casey and Charles Howell III narrowly held off Rahm’s Legion XIII for their third team title of the season.
