Ramón Rodríguez in another explosive situation.
DRAMA As Special Agent Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Ramón Rodríguez is delivering one of the best performances in prime time—just check out season 2’s first new episode, which has something to do with exploding cars. Trent, a tidy man in a mustard-brown suit, has a cool confidence when it comes to spotting key details (in the premiere, keep an eye out for cats). But his supercompetence barely papers over some deep insecurities. Rodríguez, to put this in terms of the most basic utility, gives us both the wastebasket and its jumbled, crumpled contents. In more expansive terms: He gives us everything. (Feb. 20, 8 p.m.)
MOVIE | The Taste of ThingsDRAMA Juliette Binoche playes Eugénie, a breathtakingly accomplished cook who works for the celebrated gourmet Dodin (Benoît Magimel). They’re lovers as well, but their intimacy in bed gives off less heat than the one they share discussing recipes by the stove. The food is gorgeous—you’ll wish it were takeout. (In theaters, PG-13)
Colman Domingo
SPECIAL The star-studded event is devoted to honoring performers—it also stokes buzz about who might go on to triumph in the Oscars’ acting categories. Colman Domingo, superb in Rustin, is in a heated race that includes Maestro’s Bradley Cooper and The Holdovers’ Paul Giamatti. (Feb. 24, 8 p.m.)
Naomi WattsThe Oscar-nominated actress, 55, plays socialite Babe Paley on FX’s Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, about author Truman Capote’s betrayal of his elite circle of friends in 1975.How would you describe the swans? An iconic group of women who became the envy of many other women of New York— [because of] how they dressed, who they were married to, where they showed up.Do you relate to the pressure to appear perfect? To a degree, yes. It’s never a natural thing to go out on a red carpet. Would you have rejected Capote the way Babe did after he revealed her secrets?I feel I would have wanted the friendship too much—I would’ve been able to recover. —DANA ROSE FALCONE
