The city of Mishawaka, IN, turned what used to be an industrial area into a public amenity with the 2024 IES Illumination Award of Merit-earning Ironworks Plaza Skate Rink and Sculpture Park. Animated lighting design by Schuler Shook allows the large artworks to serve as color-changing focal points around the rink. Stainless-steel and glass sculptures are internally illuminated with DMX-addressable pixel-controlled lighting while ground-mounted uplights add contrast from below.
