Executive Desk
By Brian R. Mahoney, Executive Director/CEO
January is here, and I hope your holiday season was filled with relaxation, time spent with family, and hopefully a few golf swings in your living room, on a simulator, or somewhere warm to keep your game ready for the spring.
We’re only a couple of weeks into the new year, but already we are abuzz with meetings and planning sessions here at Golf Central to ensure we’re delivering the best products and services to our members and golf community throughout the year. The energy level is high, and we’re looking forward to another great season for golf in the Met Area. We have an added bonus of the U.S. Open returning to our area this summer, to one of the great meccas of the game, and I can’t wait to watch the best golfers take on Shinnecock Hills once again.
Our lineup of championships is as strong as ever, our Adaptive Golf program continues to grow, we’re continuing to welcome new members into the MGA community, and our core services like providing handicapping and course ratings remain a crucial element of our business. Our staff remains committed to serving you – our members – and to growing the game on all fronts.
For more than 40 years, we’ve been using The Met Golfer to share stories, interviews, and news updates with our membership. We’re thrilled to continue to grow the digital Met Golfer portfolio and expand our content-sharing capabilities, content you can read where you want and how you want. In this first issue of 2026, you’ll read features on the Five Boroughs Golf Club and the community it’s growing for NYC golfers, the memorable past U.S. Opens at Shinnecock, a look behind the scenes of the second season of TGL and the New York Golf Club, and a new column on the mental side of the game. Video enhancements include one of Atlantic Golf Club’s beguiling 12th hole in Perfect Drive and a lesson on the classic bump and run from Laurel Links head pro Travis Daniels in Met Methods.
We look forward to continuing to build out content to tell the stories of the wonderful places, people, and events that make golf in the Met Area so special, all written and produced with the goal of informing and entertaining.
As the year picks up steam, all of us at the MGA remain grateful for the support of our members, clubs, facilities, and our local community – we’re thrilled to work together with you every day. I’m already looking forward to the spring and seeing you out on the course soon.
Yours in golf,
