The players ranked in the top 115 in the Race to Dubai following the Portugal Masters kept their European Tour cards for the 2020 season.
With a T6 finish in Portugal, South Korea’s Jeungheun Wang moved from 119th to 101st, while England’s Jack Singh Brar moved from 117th to 109th with a T8 result at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Club. Meanwhile, Australia’s Min Woo Lee, Sweden’s Niklas Lemke, France’s Clément Sordet, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer and England’s Lee Slattery dropped out of the top 115.
Perhaps the most prominent player to lose his playing privileges was Irishman Paul Dunne. Dunne entered the tournament at No. 118 on the Race to Dubai but dropped to 124th after missing the cut in Portugal. Dunne will have to return to the European Tour Qualifying School’s final stage, which will take place at Spain’s Lumine Golf Club from Nov. 15-20, to earn back his card.
As an amateur, Dunne shared the 54-hole lead at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews. He won the 2017 British Masters, holding off Rory McIlroy. Last year, he won the unofficial GolfSixes event alongside countryman Gavin Moynihan. This year, he missed the cut in 12 of his last 14 starts after posting two top-five finishes.
The fortunate player at No. 115 was India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar, who began last week at No. 108 but did not play in Portugal. The player at No. 116 was Chilean Hugo León, who started last week 120th and fell short despite finishing T21 in Portugal.
