Chris Gotterup scored the first victory of the 2026 PGA Tour season, capturing the Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu on Sunday. It was Gotterup’s third PGA Tour win and first since the Genesis Scottish Open last July.
“You couldn’t dream up a better start,” the 26-year-old said.
Gotterup fired a 6-under 64 on Sunday to finish 16-under (63-69-68-64), two strokes ahead of Ryan Gerard. It was an all-around performance, as he led the field in strokes gained off the tee and finished among the top 10 around the green and in putting.

“I felt like I was in control of my brain, which is the most important thing,” Gotterup said. “I felt like I drove it great and made putts when it mattered.”
Gotterup surpassed third-round leader Davis Riley, who began Sunday at 12-under, two strokes ahead of Harry Hall, Gotterup and Kevin Roy.
Early in the final round, it looked like Riley would pull away. Birdies on the third and fifth holes moved him to 14-under, three shots ahead. Then disaster struck. Riley bogeyed the sixth and seventh holes before a double bogey on No. 8 moved him back to 10-under.
With a birdie on the ninth hole, Gotterup closed out a 3-under front nine and took the solo lead at 13-under. Back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 moved him to 15-under, three shots clear of the field. Three pars before a birdie on 17 sealed it.
On Thursday, defending champion Nick Taylor got off to a blazing start, shooting bogey-free 8-under 62. The score put him in a tie for the lead with Kevin Roy.
Four players were one shot back, including Gotterup, who had eight birdies and one bogey.
On Friday, both Taylor and Roy moved to 9-under to stay at the top of the leaderboard, but three more players joined them: Riley, S.H. Kim and Adrien Dumont de Chassart. It was the most players tied for the lead after 36 holes since five players led the 2024 Valspar Championship.
Gotterup had two bogeys in his 1-under round to enter the weekend two behind the lead.
Many notable players missed the 1-under cut line, including Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa. Meanwhile, 62-year-old Vijay Singh shot 2-under through 36 holes to make his first non-major cut on the PGA Tour since the 2020 Memorial Tournament. The World Golf Hall of Famer made his 507th cut on tour and passed Stewart Cink for the sixth-most cuts made since 1983.
