Koepka’s conditional welcome apropos
It is always nice when someone realises that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side ... and Brooks Koepka should be welcomed back on the PGA Tour (“Koepka’s swift return a dynamic move for PGA Tour,” Jan. 12, GGP). But not with all the same privileges of the tour’s current star players. He should play to regain his position. Meaning, playing himself into the signature events (to which he is not qualified as a major winner), the Players, etc. He should be asked to play a certain amount of “smaller” events. As a major winner he’s qualified for the majors. Fine with me. He did that playing there. But he should not be allowed to just walk in and play whatever pleases him from Day 1.
Can he play well and by doing that get into the big events? Fine. But not because he’s Brooks Koepka and has won majors in the past (more or less recent). There is a bit of the same discussion on the DP World Tour, where Henrik Stenson would like to play again as if nothing has ever happened. He’s 49 years old! And literally trying to push younger players out of tournaments, just because he once was a great champion. That is, in my opinion, an absolute no go!

Money isn’t everything
The PGA Tour limitations on the returning path for LIV players is interesting indeed. Patrick Reed and Phil Mickelson are both major winners – but they were left outside the door to the path.
I am sure there are several other former PGA Tour players who are ruing their decisions – even though their bank accounts are flush. The person who only works for money ultimately realizes that is all they ever get paid.

Aloha times are a’changing
I agree with you (“Divot: Maui owie,” Jan. 12, GGP). I’m 80, live in Pennsylvania, and have for years waited in anticipation for the Hawaii swing. However, the number of top-ranked golfers on tour who made the trip kept getting smaller, taking away some of the luster. I still tune in as just the scenery itself is worth the effort. I also agree that Kapalua was the main attraction. I am sad to think the entire Hawaii tour will be gone soon and perhaps even the event at Torrey Pines. Times are a’changing as they say.

Tip of the cap
The opening line of this Divot (“Divot: Maui owie,” Jan. 12, GGP) is among my favorite paragraphs in GGP history.
