Two Las Vegas Giants Put Focus on Healthy Future
By Paloma Villaverde de Rico
MGM Resorts International
and
Caesars Entertainment
aren’t just talking the talk when it comes to their sustainability practices—they’re strutting their stuff, and rightly so. When we spoke with executives from both these hospitality powerhouses, we were blown away by how much they’re doing to keep the planet (and you) healthy.
MGM Resorts International
Says Stephanie Glanzer, CMP, Chief Sales Officer and Sr. VP for MGM Resorts International, “While many travelers might not immediately associate Las Vegas with sustainability, MGM Resorts is dedicated to changing that perception. We take our commitment to protecting the planet very seriously, even if it’s not a primary concern for visitors. Our goal is for people to enjoy our city and leave the responsibility of sustainability to us. A great example of this is the famous Fountains of Bellagio. Often seen as symbols of excess, these fountains are more responsible than people are aware. Lake Bellagio is fed from groundwater via well water rights controlled by
Bellagio
pool drainage from the ‘O’ show twice per year to make up for surface water evaporation. This avoids the use of critical Colorado River water and continues to contribute to Las Vegas tourism, demonstrating our effort to manage resources wisely and sustainably.â€
In fact, Glanzer notes that MGM Resorts’ water stewardship journey not only conserves water, but also advocates for water savings in the communities it operates in. On that front, MGM Resorts recently made a $500,000 donation to enhance water savings incentives for MGM Resorts employees.
“Another exciting [sustainability] initiative is our
Mega Solar Array
,†she adds, “which supplies up to 90 percent of our Las Vegas properties’ daytime energy needs. This is a significant step towards our goal of sourcing 100 percent renewable electricity in the U.S. by 2030. Additionally, our
Feeding Forward
program addresses both sustainability and philanthropy by combating food waste and feeding the hungry in our community. Since 2016, we’ve donated five million meals, achieving our 2025 goal well ahead of schedule.â€
When it comes to prioritizing guests’ wellbeing, Glanzer says that MGM Resorts’ goal is for everyone to be “just as healthy and active during their stay as they would be at home. For relaxation and rejuvenation, our portfolio boasts a wide variety of spas offering treatments with effective and eco-friendly skincare products for relaxation and rejuvenation. Additionally, we offer
Stay Well
rooms, integrating wellness into accommodations. Many of our resorts even have experts available to help
visitors implement a ‘vacation exercise regime’ tailored to fit their daily routines. Finally, our world-class dining program ensures that guests have access to healthy dining options.â€

Caesars Entertainment
Eric Dominguez, Caesars Entertainment’s Sr. VP, Engineering & Asset Management, tells
Recommend
that the company “has a multifaceted sustainability program embodied in our
PEOPLE PLANET PLAY
strategy.
PEOPLE
is all about doing what’s right for our team members, guests and the communities in which we operate. It’s about prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion, health and wellness, exceptional experiences and much more. The cornerstone of
PLAY
is our industry-leading
Responsible Gaming
program, which continues to set new standards. In 2023, Caesars became the largest multi-jurisdictional, multi-channel gaming company to offer a fully integrated universal exclusion option. And
PLANET
is all about our commitment to the environment. Our key
PLANET
programs relate to greenhouse gas reduction, water conservation and waste diversion.â€
In fact, Caesars was among the first in the industry to establish a carbon neutrality goal by 2050 to combat global climate change. “This means,†Dominguez says, that “we’re focused on energy efficiency and new technologies that can lower our energy use. We’re committed to operational improvements that allow our team members and guests to contribute to our energy and water reduction goals. We’re also integrating more renewable energy into our energy supply mix from both utility-scale solar projects and onsite installations.â€
On the wellness front, Caesars offers everything from healthy food options and Peloton bikes to yoga programming, nature walks and Roman-inspired baths.
Says Dominguez, “Whether a guest wants to work on the body or the mind, Caesars makes it easy by providing onsite amenities and nourishing food options. Guests staying at
Nobu Hotel Caesars Palace
, for example, can have a Peloton bike delivered right to their room, a convenient way to get a workout while traveling. [We also offer] many different relaxation and rejuvenation options across our resorts, whether it is a calming massage, an invigorating facial or an escape to
Qua Spa’s
Roman-inspired baths. Visitors looking for yoga, a nature walk or even a healthy meal can find unique programming to best suit their interests, activity levels and schedules.â€
