MGM RESORTS
MGM Resorts is committed to a more sustainable future through its ‘Focused on What Matters: Embracing Humanity and Protecting the Planet’ philosophy, while striving to make an impact in the lives of employees, guests, and the communities in which it operates.
Water Stewardship Efforts
Recognizing the importance of water conservation, particularly in Las Vegas’ desert environment, MGM Resorts has prioritized water stewardship in its operations and beyond. In 2022, it became the first gaming company to endorse the CEO Water Mandate –a UN Global Compact initiative mobilizing business leaders to advance corporate water stewardship. To reduce water use, MGM Resorts has replaced over 250,000 square feet of real grass with drought-tolerant landscaping in Las Vegas. The company has also committed to reducing water withdrawal intensity by 33% by 2025 and by 35% by 2030. Through conservation efforts, MGM Resorts has avoided the use of nearly 14 billion gallons of water.
Caring for One Another
With ‘Feeding Forward,’ MGM Resorts collects and redistributes unserved food to alleviate food insecurity:
Since its inception in 2016, the program has donated 5 million meals to the community, including perishable prepared and unprepared foods, as well as nonperishable items. Collaborating with Southern Nevada’s primary food bank, Three Square, MGM Resorts has established a robust infrastructure for safe food collection, transportation, and storage, reducing food waste while supporting the community.

Solar Savior
In the fight against climate change, MGM Resorts launched a groundbreaking 100-megawatt solar array in 2021:
Featuring 323,000 panels spread across 640 acres, the array generates up to 90% of MGM Resorts’ daytime power needs, making it the largest directly sourced renewable electricity project in the hospitality industry globally. To further reduce its carbon footprint, MGM Resorts aims to cut emissions by 45% per square foot by 2025 and by 50% by 2030. Additionally, the company aims to source 100% renewable electricity in the U.S. and 80% globally by 2030. MGM Resorts has undertaken various initiatives to achieve these goals, including installing over 1.4 million LED lights, pursuing green building certification for new developments, and implementing large-scale solar projects like the 8.3-megawatt array at Mandalay Bay.
Going Green
MGM Resorts implements diverse and impactful waste diversion efforts: Over 30 materials are diverted from landfills, underscoring the company’s commitment to waste reduction. Since 2007, MGM Resorts has diverted over 626,000 tons of waste from landfills. All trash is hand sorted behind the scenes, ensuring the highest possible diversion rates and allowing visitors to fully enjoy the resorts without navigating multiple recycling bins.
Through these comprehensive initiatives, MGM Resorts is leading the charge towards a more sustainable future while setting new standards for environmental stewardship in the hospitality industry.
