San Francisco-based Orion Sleep has introduced a smart mattress cover designed to personalize sleep conditions through biometric sensing and adaptive temperature control. The Orion Smart Cover fits over any standard mattress and monitors users’ heart rate, breathing patterns, and sleep stages. Throughout the night, the device automatically cools or warms the bed to maintain an optimal sleep climate. Dual-zone capability allows partners to tailor temperatures individually.
Ahead of installation, Orion offers an at-home sleep optimization test that evaluates a user’s natural thermal tendencies. The cover then arrives preprogrammed with temperature profiles custom-designed to support deeper, more restorative sleep. The system features a compact control tower, reduced electromagnetic field emissions, and a wider temperature range than earlier temperature-regulating sleep solutions, the company says.
Pricing for the Orion Sleep System starts at $2,295 for a queen, $2,495 for a king, and $2,595 for a California king. All sizes are available in plush or firm comfort options, and financing is offered.
“Sleep is the cornerstone of longevity,” says founder and CEO Harry Gestetner. “When you improve sleep, you improve every other part of your health.”
Michael J. Breus, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, double board-certified sleep specialist, and Orion’s chief sleep officer, says temperature regulation plays a pivotal role in overall sleep quality. “Body temperature is the No. 1 controllable component of sleep,” he says. “By helping balance temperature throughout the night, Orion’s smart sleep system can reduce wake-ups and increase time spent in deep and REM sleep.”
Orion says its broader mission is to make high-performance sleep technology more accessible by blending advanced sensing, individualized thermal control, and design-forward aesthetics.
