Since 2016, Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort in Boerne has been the convivial host club for the TGA’s Texas Shamble. The picturesque resort annually rolls out the red carpet for players from around the state for the unforgettable three-day getaway.
The Texas Shamble is the highlight event of the TGA’s Fun Golf Series presented by PGA TOUR Superstore and combines good-natured competition with an emphasis on the social aspects of the game, like enjoying the chance to play a great golf course and making new friends.
“The Texas Shamble is one of the most fun events on the TGA schedule,” said Kelly Kilgo, Managing Director of the TGA Foundation and Director of Outreach. “I am excited that Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort is having us again this year and I know it will be a great time!”
The 2021 edition takes place Oct. 29-31 and will feature 54 two-person teams competing in men’s, women’s, and mixed team flights, each with gross and net divisions. The format is a two-person shamble with handicaps, as well as senior tees for players aged 65 and older. In a two-person shamble format, both players hit a tee shot, select the best one and play their own ball from that point until the ball is holed. The team records the better of the two scores as the team score for each hole.
Tapatio Springs boasts one of the best resort golf courses in Texas. Winding through the beautiful countryside of Central Texas, the course offers incredible views, many elevation changes, groves of live oak trees, natural water features and holes that are challenging yet playable—whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just beginning.
World-renowned golf course architect Tripp Davis completed a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2015 that included rebuilding all tees, fairways, greens, and bunkers. The stunning transformation earned rave reviews from players and in 2016 was named as the No. 1 “Most Improved Public Golf Course” in the U.S. by Golf Inc. Magazine.
“Being able to host events like the Texas Shamble aligns beautifully with Tapatio Springs’ mission to provide our guests with genuine Texas hospitality in an environment that is both fun and restorative in nature, while enjoying a little competition on the greens,” said Tapatio Springs Director of Sales and Marketing Jonathan Falloon.
Now in its seventh year, the anticipation and excitement for the Texas Shamble continues to grow. The 54-team field limit filled up in a week and a half with many more on the waitlist eager to play.
“Partnering with the Texas Golf Association as host of the Texas Shamble at Tapatio Springs is a wonderful privilege and a great opportunity to welcome players from around the state,” said Falloon. “Having been the host for the Texas Shamble since 2016, makes this tournament even more enjoyable, as it allows our team to connect with guests whom we have come to know over the years and who enjoy returning each year, as a reunion of sorts. Our goal at Tapatio Springs is to provide memorable experiences and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue this tradition with the TGA.”
