Online entry registration is now open for the 87th Texas Senior Amateur, to be played from Sept. 27-29 on the TPC Las Colinas Course at The Nelson Golf & Sports Club in Irving.
TPC Las Colinas opened in 1982 and was originally designed by Jay Morrish with Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw serving as player consultants. In 2008, D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard oversaw a significant course renovation that included the addition of new water features, moving nearly 200 trees to frame landing areas, and reshaping and relocating tees, bunkers, and greens. The numerous upgrades enhanced and fortified the strategic features of the challenging par-70 layout, which is perhaps best known as the host venue for the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson from 1983-2017.
The Texas Senior Amateur is open to male amateur golfers who reside in the state of Texas, are age 55 or older as of the first round of the championship and have an up-to-date WHS Handicap Index® of 6.4 or lower issued through a member club of the TGA. Online player registration can be accessed here, and entries will be accepted through Wednesday, July 31, at 5 p.m. CDT.
Beginning in 2024, the TGA has implemented several modifications and enhancements to ensure high-caliber players are provided ample opportunity to earn a spot in the prestigious statewide championship. These include increasing the number of qualifying sites and the addition of new and expanded exemption categories.
The number of qualifying sites for non-exempt players is expanding from 5 in 2023 to 8 in 2024. Conducted over 18 holes, the following qualifiers will be held throughout Texas between Aug. 1 and Sept. 18. (Note: A player who is currently 54 years old may compete in one of the 8 qualifiers, provided they will have reached the age of 55 before the first round of the championship on Sept. 27.)
