The TGA honored Jeff Petterson with the North Volunteer of the Year award in 2023. The Fort Worth native has been an integral part of the TGA Volunteer Program team since 2019. Petterson was particularly impactful this past year as he gave time at each type of event (Men’s, Women’s, LJT, and USGA Qualifying).
When Petterson first began volunteering with the TGA, he credited the enjoyment he found in learning more about the Rules of Golf and helping competitors on the course for reasons why he chose to give his time to the Association. It’s a way for him to stay connected to the tournament side of golf.
“Jeff devoted many days to the Association in 2023 and his hard work and dedication to golf was apparent each time he volunteered,” said Kevin Porter, TGA Director of Competitions for North Texas. “His presence on the course was appreciated not only by staff running the events, but also players navigating the golf courses.”
Chuck Flowers, a longtime TGA Volunteer, had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Petterson at events this year and saw his hard work firsthand.
“Jeff is such a joy to be around, and I always look forward to working with him,” Flowers said. “I’ve observed in Jeff a willingness as a Rules Official to do an exceptionally good job. He’s a dedicated team player. He’s not afraid to ask questions about the Rules and is always a great source of information to interact with when it is related to finding the correct answer and getting it right. His goal is to help the players have a good time on the course and to play by the Rules.”
